Hanamaru Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture, President and Representative Director: Yoshihiro Maeda, hereinafter "Hanamaru"), which operates the Sanuki Udon chain "Hanamaru Udon," will offer udon made with freshly harvested wheat from Kagawa Prefecture's "Sanuki no Yume 2023" flour on "Udon Day," July 2nd. This special udon will be available for a limited time only on that day at 43 participating stores nationwide.

Last year, this event was held at 25 stores and was a great success, with many udon fans visiting right after opening. This year, to allow even more customers to experience the overwhelming deliciousness of "freshly harvested, freshly milled" wheat, we have expanded the number of participating stores to 43. Under the keyword "#NewWheatHarvestFestival," which aims to energize udon shops and fans together, Hanamaru Udon will also offer a premium taste for one day only tomorrow, contributing to the promotion of Japan's udon culture.

Sanuki no Yume New Wheat Harvest Festival

Why only tomorrow? The background of "#NewWheatHarvestFestival" to enjoy new wheat on "Udon Day," July 2nd.

"Udon Day" on July 2nd originates from a warm custom that has long been practiced in Kagawa Prefecture, where farmers, after finishing their wheat harvest, would make udon with the new wheat harvested that year to celebrate their hard work. "#NewWheatHarvestFestival" is a seasonal event to express gratitude for the blessings of nature for a successful wheat harvest and to savor the fresh wheat harvested in the year.

Hanamaru Udon also wishes to share the charm of this beautiful tradition and Sanuki udon culture nationwide. Therefore, on July 2nd only, all udon menu items (including classic "kake" and "on tamabukake," as well as seasonal limited menus) at all 43 participating stores will be switched to special noodles blended with "Sanuki no Yume 2023" new wheat harvested this year. This is a luxurious initiative that allows you to enjoy the blessings of new wheat, carefully cultivated by producers, and the special chewy noodles that can only be experienced once a year.

Features of "Sanuki no Yume," a miraculous wheat born for Sanuki Udon.

"Sanuki no Yume" is a collective term for original wheat varieties developed in Kagawa Prefecture specifically for authentic Sanuki Udon. It was born from the passionate desire of the local udon industry and udon enthusiasts to "create the most delicious Sanuki Udon using local wheat."

The name "Sanuki no Yume" embodies the dream of further popularizing udon made from the prefecture's unique wheat suitable for Sanuki Udon and having many people around the world enjoy it.

Udon made with "Sanuki no Yume" is characterized by its unique chewy texture with a firm bite, and a smooth, slippery mouthfeel on the surface. Furthermore, the nostalgic and rich aroma of wheat that spreads in your mouth as you chew, unique to freshly harvested wheat, whets your appetite. Each store will sell out of noodles, making it a premium bowl.

About the "Oidemai! Sanuki Project"

What is the "Oidemai! Sanuki Project"?

Hanamaru Udon was founded in 2000 and has played a role in boosting the Sanuki Udon boom by developing new customer segments through its self-service store format. While conveying the diversity and unique characteristics of Sanuki Udon nationwide, we face the challenge that it has not yet fully permeated.

In January of last year, upon returning our headquarters to Kagawa Prefecture after 25 years, we aim to transmit the charm of Kagawa Prefecture nationwide through product development and sales utilizing local products. Thus, this project was launched with the goals of regional contribution and for Hanamaru to protect the tradition of Sanuki Udon while driving innovation.

<Origin of the Project Name>

"Oidemai" is a Sanuki dialect word meaning "Welcome."

It expresses our desire for people nationwide to think, "I want to eat Sanuki Udon" or "I want to go to Kagawa to eat Sanuki Udon" through our future activities.
