Yachiyo Engineering Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Taito-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and President: Tsutomu Takahashi) and Atomis Corporation (Head Office: Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture; Representative Director and CEO: Daisuke Asari; hereinafter “Atomis”) concluded a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (hereinafter “this MoU”) with the National Energy Technology Center (hereinafter “ENTEC”), under the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) of Thailand, on April 23, 2026, regarding the utilization of advanced materials for energy technology.

This MoU was signed in the presence of His Excellency Mr. Masato Otaka, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Kingdom of Thailand, by Dr. Sumittra Charojrochkul, Executive Director of ENTEC, Mr. Daisuke Asari, Representative Director and CEO of Atomis, and Mr. Kenjiro Yamanaka, Director and Executive Officer, Head of Business Development Division of Yachiyo Engineering.

Background and Purpose of this MoU

In Thailand, the urban gas network is not well-developed, and many households rely on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for heat sources. Amidst the financial strain caused by soaring energy prices in recent years, there is an urgent need for an energy structure transformation to balance energy security and decarbonization.

CubiTan®, a next-generation high-pressure gas container developed by Atomis, is an innovative solution that realizes this transformation. By utilizing porous coordination polymers (hereinafter “PCP/MOF”) as a gas adsorbent, it enables:

- High-density gas adsorption and storage while being compact and lightweight
- Diversification of energy by substituting LPG with methane gas and biogas
- Reduction of environmental impact by suppressing methane emissions

Furthermore, to maximize the characteristics of CubiTan®, Yachiyo Engineering and Atomis are jointly developing the “Smart Gas Network Concept.” By realizing smart delivery, billing, and management services that do not depend on pipeline infrastructure, this concept contributes to achieving both energy security and decarbonization.

Yachiyo Engineering and Atomis have continuously participated in the “National Science and Technology Fair” hosted by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation of the Kingdom of Thailand, striving to promote CubiTan®. Additionally, Professor Susumu Kitagawa of Kyoto University, a leading authority in PCP/MOF development and a recipient of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2025, was invited to King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi (Bangkok, Thailand) to give a special lecture. The conclusion of this MoU is the culmination of these long-standing efforts.

Leveraging this MoU, we will strongly lead the transformation of the energy structure by promoting research and development, innovation, and social implementation of next-generation energy supply utilizing PCP/MOF, in conjunction with Thailand's Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) and Power Development Plan (PDP) policies.
