Hayato Sumino has been appointed Artist-in-Residence at the Rheingau Music Festival, one of Germany’s most prestigious music festivals. This broadcast features his opening performance of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 from a series of seven diverse concerts.

The Rheingau Music Festival, held from June to September in Germany’s renowned wine region, is one of Europe’s largest music events. After performing in 2024 and 2025, Sumino takes on the role of Artist-in-Residence in 2026, presenting seven concerts during the festival. His program includes orchestral collaborations, solo recitals, and a jazz trio performance with Shun Iwana and Marti Hollobek, known from 'JAZZ NOT ONLY JAZZ.' This broadcast presents the festival’s opening concert with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony.

The Frankfurt Radio Symphony, a renowned German orchestra celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2029, performs under the baton of Music Director Alan Alainoglu. Sumino performs Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor, Op. 18—one of the most beloved and technically demanding piano concertos in history. Audiences will experience how Sumino, with his exceptional expressiveness, interprets this masterpiece. Notably, Sumino is scheduled to perform this concerto only twice internationally in 2026—once at this festival and once in France—making this a rare and unmissable opportunity.
