Rocket Base Inc. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Kosuke Saito, Tatsunori Kihara) will begin development of the business experience simulation game 'CONSULTING QUEST.' This game-based tool allows candidates to virtually experience scenarios similar to actual consulting projects on a browser, promoting job understanding and increasing motivation.
Background of Development
The Goal of Recruitment is 'Success,' Not Just 'Joining'
Even after investing significant costs and efforts in recruitment to the point of hiring, if an employee leaves early due to 'the job being different from what I imagined,' all that effort goes back to square one. Surveys consistently show 'the job content heard before joining was different from reality' as a top reason for resignation.
Why Do Mismatches Occur? — The 'Process of Work' is Not Conveyed
This problem is particularly pronounced in the consulting industry. Information gathering, hypothesis building, client interviews, proposal document creation — the appeal of consulting work lies in this 'process.' However, information conveyed in briefings and job descriptions primarily focuses on 'results' and 'career paths.' Candidates decide to join without a tangible feel for the work, leading to 'this wasn't what I expected' after joining.
What's Needed is 'Realistic Job Preview (RJP)'
RJP (Realistic Job Preview) is an approach known to reduce post-hire gaps and increase retention rates by conveying both the positive and challenging aspects of a job in advance. However, traditional RJP primarily involves employee interviews and workplace tours, offering no means for candidates to personally experience 'what it would be like if I did that job.'
What is 'CONSULTING QUEST'?
'CONSULTING QUEST' is a recruitment support tool that allows candidates to access it via a browser and experience scenarios similar to actual consulting firm operations in a game format.
Players are assigned to a DX project as a 'Senior Associate one month into their転職.' Through interactions with managers, colleagues, and clients, they experience a series of consulting tasks such as information gathering, hypothesis building, client interviews, and proposal document creation. On the final day, they receive an evaluation during an executive presentation, with results displayed in S-D ranks.
【Features】
- Customized scenarios tailored to each company's specific business content. - Visual novel-style presentation with realistic office photos and character images. - Command-selection format providing an experience of 'thinking and making decisions independently.' - Playtime of 10-15 minutes. Playable on both smartphones and PCs. - Applicable in various situations, including briefing content, pre-selection experience, and post-offer follow-up.
【How to Play the Game】~ Example of a DX Promotion Project ~
The protagonist participates in a DX promotion project for core system renewal and business process transformation. This program allows them to experience one week from team formation to the initial executive report.
Players advance the project by selecting commands such as 'Input,' 'Think,' 'Work,' and 'Consult' to achieve their mission. Daily work hours are limited, and there isn't enough time to complete everything: information gathering, hypothesis organization, slide creation, and reporting to the manager. Players can realistically experience the busyness and continuous decision-making of consulting work, constantly thinking, 'What should I do in this one hour?'
Executing commands unfolds specific project scenes. Analyzing internal documents shared by clients, organizing data with team members, reporting hypotheses to managers — although the scenarios are fictional, they are designed based on the 'questions' and 'client challenges' that consultants face in actual projects. Players can feel the progress of the project as feedback is provided on the results of their chosen commands.
The culmination of 5 days of decisions is reflected in the evaluation of the Friday executive presentation. Feedback from client executives and an S-D rank evaluation allow players to reflect on their work approach.
Anticipated Use Cases
Increasing Motivation During Selection → Preventing Offer Declines
Allowing candidates to experience the game during the selection process creates a tangible feeling of 'this company's work seems interesting,' reducing the risk of them going to other companies.
Follow-up During the Period from Offer to Joining → Preventing Offer Declines and Pre-joining Anxiety
Helping candidates concretely imagine 'themselves after joining' during the months between receiving an offer and joining, preventing resignations due to anxiety.
Onboarding After Joining → Preventing Early Turnover
Allowing employees to experience the overall scope of work before assignment reduces instances of 'I wasn't told' or 'It's different from what I imagined.'
