SL Yamaguchi-go Special Experience Tour ~See the Backstage Areas You Normally Can't Enter!~

Regarding the highly popular "SL Yamaguchi-go," we will be holding a special experience tour that allows participants to view maintenance sites normally inaccessible to the public. We have prepared valuable programs such as a tour inside the SL Yamaguchi-go's shed, operating the whistle, and experiencing coal shoveling using training equipment. This project is exclusively available through "tabiwa Travel" and offers both day trip and overnight stay plans. It is highly recommended for SL fans, as well as for creating memories with family and friends. We sincerely look forward to your participation.

1. Dates and Location

May 22, 2026 (Friday), June 12, 2026 (Friday), June 19, 2026 (Friday) Each day: 14:00 - 16:00 (approx. 2 hours) Location: Shimonoseki General Rolling Stock Center, Shin-Yamaguchi Branch

2. Number of Participants

May 22 (Friday) / June 12 (Friday): 20 people June 19 (Friday): 18 people (Registration will close once the capacity is reached.)

3. Travel Plans

You can choose from the following plans according to your preference: ① Day trip plan including a round-trip Shinkansen ticket and the SL Yamaguchi-go Special Experience Tour. ② Plan including a round-trip Shinkansen ticket, the SL Yamaguchi-go Special Experience Tour, and accommodation.

4. Experience Tour Content

・Tour inside the SL Yamaguchi-go's shed * You can photograph the stationary SL Yamaguchi-go. (Riding the running SL Yamaguchi-go is not included.) ・Whistle experience on the locomotive (Limited to 4 people on May 22 & June 12, limited to 2 people on June 19) ・Observation of coal shoveling demonstration by JR West employees and coal shoveling experience using training equipment. * For the whistle experience, you can select whether you wish to participate when applying for the travel plan. Please note that registration will close once the capacity is reached. * The tour content may be subject to change. Please be aware of this in advance.

・The special experience tour on June 19 (Friday) is also offered as a return gift for some individuals who have made a Furusato Nozei (hometown tax donation) to Yamaguchi City. If you wish to apply via Furusato Nozei, please check today's press release "Regarding the Provision of SL Yamaguchi-go Backstage Tour as a Furusato Nozei Return Gift for Yamaguchi City." ・The tour may be canceled in the event of natural disasters or other large-scale transportation disruptions. ・The SL whistle experience produces a very loud sound, so please be especially careful if you are accompanied by small children. ・Purchases for multiple people are possible, but the whistle experience is limited to once per group. Please be aware of this in advance. ・In the viewing area, please follow the instructions of the staff and cooperate in holding a safe event. ・There are many uneven areas on the premises, and clothing may get dirty when guided to the driver's cab, so please participate in comfortable clothing and footwear that you don't mind getting dirty.
