Wemex Inc. (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and President: Hideaki Takahashi; hereinafter "Wemex"), a subsidiary of PHC Holdings Corporation (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; TSE Prime: 6523), announced today, April 1st, the launch of its security solution "Two-Factor Authentication/USB Connection Restriction Software" for medical institutions and pharmacies. This solution will be offered to customers using Wemex products (※1), primarily the 'Medicom-HRf series' for clinics and the 'Pharnes series' for pharmacies.

This product was developed based on "SmartOn (※3)," a multi-factor authentication solution from Soliton Systems K.K. (Headquarters: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and President: Osamu Kamata), which boasts the No. 1 domestic market share for 22 consecutive years (※2) and has a proven track record of implementation in government agencies and major corporations.

**#Development Background** In recent years, with the advancement of medical DX (Digital Transformation), medical information and dispensing information, such as online claims for medical fees, online eligibility verification, and electronic prescriptions, are increasingly handled on external networks and cloud services outside of medical facilities. However, concurrently, there has been a rise in reported cases of unauthorized access and ransomware attacks at medical institutions and pharmacies. Depending on the scale of the damage, these incidents can lead to system shutdowns or suspension of patient admissions, severely impacting the continuity of medical care.

In response to this situation, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) published the "Guidelines for the Secure Management of Medical Information Systems, Version 6.0" and the "Cybersecurity Countermeasures Checklist for Medical Institutions, etc." in 2023. This solution enables compliance with the two-factor authentication requirement for medical information systems stipulated in these guidelines to be met by fiscal year Reiwa 9 (2027).

**#Features of This Software** This product supports two-factor authentication and restrictions on external storage media connections, as specified in the MHLW's "Cybersecurity Countermeasures Checklist for Medical Institutions, etc.," thereby realizing security measures tailored to the on-site needs of medical institutions and pharmacies.

* **Easy Operation with IC Card Touch** Two-factor authentication is achieved by simply adding an IC card touch and password input to conventional operations, minimizing the burden on the medical staff. * **Authority Settings Tailored to Medical Environments** Authentication authorities can be set according to roles within the facility. This product offers three standard settings to support flexible operations. * **Stable Operation Even During Network Failures** By adopting a method that does not require communication with a server during authentication, stable authentication is achieved, less affected by network environments. This strengthens security while maintaining authentication speed.

This enables medical institutions and pharmacies to meet required security specifications with minimal operational burden.

Wemex is committed to contributing to the promotion of medical DX through improved security in medical settings, reducing the burden on healthcare professionals, and enhancing medical services for patients.
