[Ginza Wako] "Rimako Horikawa Painting Exhibition: Footprints of Time" to be held from Thursday, April 23

Seiko House Hall will host "Rimako Horikawa Painting Exhibition: Footprints of Time" from Thursday, April 23, to Wednesday, May 6. This marks artist and picture book author Rimako Horikawa's eighth solo exhibition at Wako and her first in three years.

With "Footprints of Time" as the theme, the exhibition features approximately 60 works, including paintings of animals, children, and clocks that evoke a sense of nostalgia, as well as ceramic works and precious original drawings from her picture books.

In particular, her new "light and shadow" works, which represent a new artistic challenge, change their expression along with the viewer's gaze, speaking directly to the heart of each individual.

Regarding "Rimako Horikawa Painting Exhibition: Footprints of Time"

I have been thinking more often about what it means to be alive right now.

To live is to leave one's "footprints" everywhere, and to spin one's own small, individual story. Deeply feeling how happy that is, I wanted to capture those small, personal stories within my paintings.

Also, I have long enjoyed drawing while finding interest in imagery and forms, and I feel that this enjoyment is a necessity for me. - Rimako Horikawa

Rimako Horikawa: Biography
1965: Born in Tokyo
1989: Graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Design
1991: Completed Master's program at Tokyo University of the Arts, Graduate School of Fine Arts; received Salon de Printemps Award for graduation project
2000, '05, '07, '09, '14, '20, '23: Solo exhibitions at Wako
2017: Group exhibition of six female artists at Wako Hall (now Seiko House Hall)
2019: Created stained glass for the chapel at Aoyama Gakuin Junior High School
2021: Received the 31st Bunkamura Les Deux Magots Literature Award for the picture book "Umi no Atelier"
2022: Received the 53rd Kodansha Publishing Culture Award for Picture Books and the 71st Shogakukan Children's Publication Culture Award for the same work; won the Grand Prix at the 1st "Art and Word Power Exhibition"
2025: Group exhibition of five picture book authors at Seiko House Hall; received the 40th Tsubota Joji Literature Award for the children's literature work "Himitsu dakedo, hanashimasu"; received the 46th Iwaya Sazanami Literary Award for "Ima, Nihon wa senso wo shiteiru" and other works
