Wacom Co., Ltd. (hereinafter, Wacom) and its subsidiary Recross Expansion Co., Ltd. (hereinafter, Recross) will jointly conduct a demonstration experiment with Hitomairu Co., Ltd. (hereinafter, Hitomairu), which operates the liquor sales and delivery service "Nandemo Sakaya Kakuyasu." The experiment, starting in July 2026, will utilize digital ink technology to acquire and process handwriting data for digital transformation (DX) in delivery and store operations.
Wacom has been a leader in the pen tablet market, developing OEM pen solutions and promoting research and development of digital ink technology for acquiring and processing handwriting data. This time, Wacom will develop and provide a business system utilizing digital ink technology, based on Wacom's Android OS-equipped pen input tablets, in collaboration with Recross.
Background and Challenges
Hitomairu operates its existing liquor sales and delivery business through "Nandemo Sakaya Kakuyasu" and is also promoting a logistics system business that provides one-stop services from order reception to delivery, invoicing, and payment for various products.
Currently, Kakuyasu stores use various devices for POS terminals and data management in liquor sales and delivery operations. There are plans to simplify the device configuration in line with a system update scheduled for 2027. With this update, Wacom's digital pen and digital ink technology will be introduced to improve the operational efficiency and working environment for store staff, strengthen the monitoring of changes in delivery drivers' physical condition, and enhance system security.
Overview and Objectives of the Demonstration Experiment
This joint demonstration experiment will commence in July 2026 at a base store near Hitomairu's Oji headquarters in Kita-ku. The verification will proceed in stages, with the goal of expanding to all stores by March 2027 based on the results.
This demonstration experiment will verify the maximization of on-site productivity and customer/employee experience in the following areas by converting the intuitive act of "writing" into digital assets.
1. Promoting store DX utilizing handwriting input
Secure authentication and operation improvement: Biometric authentication using dynamic characteristics of handwriting (stroke order, pressure, in-air movement, writing speed, etc.) will eliminate the risk of forgetting passwords and enable instant and secure login to registers.
Paperless B2B transactions and evidence management: Delivery signatures for restaurants, etc., will be digitized. In addition to electronic signature data precisely acquired with Wacom's unique technology, electronic signatures and timestamps will be added to ensure authenticity, while reducing paper management costs and storage space.
2. Advanced safety and health management in delivery operations
In delivery drivers' operations, handwriting data generated during daily report entries and signature authentication will be collected and analyzed using digital ink technology. The possibility of grasping signs of fatigue and changes in physical condition from changes in pen pressure and speed will be verified, and by monitoring this in combination with alcohol check results based on laws and regulations, it will support the realization of safe driving. (*At this stage, it is a verification of possibility and does not constitute medical diagnosis.)
Advantages of Introducing Wacom's Technology
Wacom's technology, which captures the "dynamic characteristics of handwriting" with high precision—something that can be imitated but is extremely difficult to replicate—enables both robust security and an intuitive interface closest to humans. This seamlessly connects customer interactions, which tend to be fragmented by keyboard and mouse operations, by using portable Android OS-equipped pen input tablets.
Comments from Representatives on this Initiative
"Wacom provides a 'pen and ink experience' integrating hardware, software, and services, with digital pen technology at its core. The unique handwriting data possessed by digital ink can reflect not only business authentication but also a person's mental and physical state. Through this joint demonstration experiment with Recross, we aim to create new service value and contribute to the realization of safe delivery."
—Nobutaka Ide, President & CEO, Wacom Co., Ltd.
"We want to promote the creation of a system that provides higher quality logistics services while protecting the well-being of store employees and the safety and health of each delivery driver, together with Wacom and Recross."
—Tomoki Murayama, Executive Officer, Group System Planning & Development Department / Group System Service Department, Hitomairu Co., Ltd.
