On Saturday, March 28, Valeo celebrated the inauguration of a new state-of-the-art manufacturing line dedicated to electric powertrain systems at its Pune plant, attended by Mr. Velusamy R, President of Mahindra & Mahindra's Automotive Business, and Xavier Dupont, CEO of Valeo Power Division.
Valeo has been selected as the supplier of electric powertrains for Mahindra's new "Born Electric" platform. At its Pune plant, equipped with advanced manufacturing capabilities, Valeo will produce a 3-in-1 e-Axle that integrates the motor, inverter, and reducer into a compact and efficient system, which will be installed in new models. This advanced e-Axle, developed and manufactured in India, will provide high efficiency, optimized performance, and enhanced reliability, serving as a crucial component for realizing next-generation electric mobility. Valeo's latest generation motor technology is utilized in this integrated 3-in-1 e-Axle.
Xavier Dupont, CEO of Valeo Power Division, stated: "India is a key region in Valeo's strategic plan 'Elevate 2028.' This investment in Pune underscores the Group's commitment to advancing local production of advanced technologies in India. By locally producing the highly integrated 3-in-1 e-Axle system, Valeo strengthens its ability to provide advanced technology to its customers and contributes to India's transition to safer and more sustainable mobility."
Jayakumar G, President of Valeo India, commented: "The commissioning of this line marks a significant milestone in Valeo's journey in India. The new e-Axle manufacturing line in Pune is a crucial step in our growth strategy. It reflects our commitment to providing advanced technological solutions close to our customers. We are proud to develop and manufacture this e-Axle for Mahindra's Born Electric vehicles and contribute to the growth of India's EV ecosystem."
This line, located within Valeo's Pune plant in Lonikand, features advanced manufacturing capabilities designed to achieve high levels of precision, efficiency, and quality in electric powertrain systems. It consists of automated production lines for U-pin or hairpin winding stator assembly, reducer assembly, inverter manufacturing, and final e-Axle assembly. These lines incorporate advanced automation, precise assembly processes, and stringent quality control systems, supported by complete digitalization and end-to-end traceability.
