Usaco Corporation (Head Office: 2-17-12 Higashi-Azabu, Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Shinichi Yamakawa), which develops research support services, held a free three-part online seminar "Data Analysis with Excel + XLSTAT (Basic Statistics Series)" to learn data analysis from the basics using Excel.
This series was planned to systematically teach the basics of data analysis to Excel users. Over 500 participants attended in total, demonstrating the high demand for learning statistical fundamentals.
## Seminar Overview
This series consisted of three sessions with the following content, designed to progressively understand the basics of data analysis:
Session 1: Basic Statistics and Visualization
- Explanation of basic terms, graph selection, how to read graphs, etc.
Session 2: Correlation Analysis and Regression Analysis
- Correlation coefficient, difference between correlation/causation, simple/multiple regression analysis, etc.
Session 3: Hypothesis Testing (Significance Testing and A/B Testing)
- Meaning of p-value, differences and proper use of various methods (t-test, ANOVA, chi-squared test), etc.
Each session explained statistical basic concepts with concrete examples and operational demonstrations to help participants understand how to apply them in practice.
## Lecturer Introduction
Mr. Takuma Nishimaki
After working at Fujitsu and KPMG Consulting, he became independent and founded his own company. Currently, he provides data utilization support and training instruction for companies. In parallel, he operates the YouTube channel "Data Science Juku!!" with over 20,000 subscribers and conducts research on data analysis at a graduate school.
## Seminar Evaluation
Participants came from a wide range of fields, primarily universities and research institutions, including corporate participants. The post-seminar questionnaire received feedback such as:
"My understanding of statistical basics deepened."
"It was easy to understand because I could listen to the explanation while watching the actual operations screen."
"My understanding of p-values and statistical significance deepened, and it seems it will lead to meaningful judgments in the future."
Overall, the seminar received high evaluations for both understanding basic concepts and practical application.
## Lecturer's Comment
Lecturer: Takuma Nishimaki
"To all participants and Usaco Corporation, thank you very much for this valuable opportunity.
Through your feedback, I once again realized the importance of learning statistical analysis and utilizing it in the field.
I hope this seminar has been of some help in your work and research."
## Regarding Future Events
Based on the questionnaire results, we plan to hold a new seminar series focusing on themes such as "Multivariate Analysis" and "Machine Learning/Prediction Models" in the future. We will announce the dates on our website and other channels as soon as they are decided.
