UHA Mikakuto Co., Ltd., in a joint study with the Department of Gastroenterological Surgery at Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine, has demonstrated that administering an oral fast-dissolving tablet, developed using the company's existing formulation technology, to patients after colorectal surgery reduces the incidence of post-operative ileus and shortens hospital stays. These findings were presented on April 24, 2026, at the 126th Annual Congress of the Japan Surgical Society. In the study, 100 patients undergoing laparoscopic colorectal resection were given the tablet three times a day from the day after surgery until they began regular meals. The results showed a significant reduction in the incidence of ileus, as well as earlier commencement of oral intake and shorter hospital stays. Beyond colorectal surgery, the application of this method is expected to extend to other abdominal surgeries and the prevention of frailty associated with reduced appetite.
