A Taisho Roman Architecture Left by a Millionaire! Overlooking Kyoto

The first place we visit is [Goryukaku (Former Shoofu Kajotei)]. This was the residence of Kajyo Shoofu, a Kiyomizu-yaki potter and businessman, built in 1921. The first floor operates as [CAFE Goryukaku], utilizing the retro space. The second floor and above are not open to the public, but we are allowed a special tour this time.

The second and third floors are also lovely, but the highlight is the fourth floor. When you go up, you find a luxurious space with a panoramic view of the Kyoto cityscape! Not only Kyoto landmarks like Yasaka Pagoda, but also the skyscrapers of Umeda can be seen in the distance. Feeling hungry, the two head to [Oni Tofu], a popular restaurant that opened last July. The restaurant boasts dishes made with homemade tofu, and Mitamura can enjoy his favorite food for lunch. Before that, Mitamura tries the homemade 'Soy Milk'. "The bean aroma is amazing!"

After enjoying the delicious smoked dishes, the two head to the World Heritage site [Ninnaji Temple]. Here, the quiet temple grounds are currently illuminated at night. This project was started as a way to preserve the scenery of Ninnaji Temple for future generations, and they are captivated by the fantastical night view.

"Otona Tabi Aruki Tabi" airs every Saturday at 6:30 PM. It is a travel program for "adults" where Kunihiko Mitamura walks through the places he visits, savoring local delicacies, fine wines, and scenery, and conveying his feelings from his interactions with local people.
