The nationwide revival screening project 'Filmarks 90’s' has confirmed its 16th installment: the cult classic 'The Big Lebowski.' Directed and written by the Academy Award-winning duo Joel and Ethan Coen, the film will be screened in Japanese theaters for a limited two-week engagement starting May 29, 2026.
As a special gift for attendees, an A5-sized mini poster featuring the international visual design will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. The visual centers on a bowling ball surrounded by the film's eccentric characters, capturing the unique humor of this absurdist comedy. Distribution is limited to one per person per screening while supplies last.
Set in 1991 Los Angeles, the story follows Jeff 'The Dude' Lebowski, an unemployed slacker who is mistaken for a millionaire with the same name. Dragged into a bizarre kidnapping plot by a pair of thugs, The Dude and his bowling buddy Walter attempt to navigate a series of surreal events. Renowned for its offbeat humor, the film features an exceptional cast including Jeff Bridges, John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, and Julianne Moore.
In addition to the theatrical release, the project will collaborate with the movie channel 'The Cinema' for a special broadcast series starting June 4. A companion publication, '90’s MOVIE BOOK,' is also scheduled for release in early 2026, offering a deep dive into the era's cinematic culture.
