Torex Semiconductor Ltd. (Head Office: Koto-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Takeshi Kimura; hereinafter "Torex") has developed a new step-down DC/DC converter, the "XC9714 series." This product supports a maximum input of 36V and an output current of 2.0A, achieving high-efficiency and stable power supply for a wide range of applications. Furthermore, by standardizing the pin assignments with existing high-voltage product lines, the risk of board redesign due to changes in power supply specifications can be minimized.

The XC9714 series is a synchronous rectification step-down DC/DC converter with a bootstrap method, incorporating Nch-Nch driver FETs. It features an input voltage range of 4.5V to 36V, an output voltage setting range of 2.5V to 18.0V, and an output current of 2.0A. The switching frequency is 800kHz, and the operating mode can be selected from "PWM control" and "PWM/PFM control" via the MODE pin. PWM control maintains a constant frequency regardless of the load, making noise countermeasures easy. Moreover, the product's current consumption is extremely low at 9μA, which enables high efficiency even during light loads (IOUT=10mA or less) when PWM/PFM control is selected, contributing to overall system power saving from light to heavy loads.

【Pin Compatibility for Enhanced Design Flexibility】
A major feature of this product is that while its specifications (such as withstand voltage and output current) differ from existing products like "XC9711" and "XC9702," it adopts the same pin assignment. This allows for a smooth design transition with only minor changes (minimal adjustments) to the existing board layout, even if power supply specifications such as input voltage or required current change during development. This significantly reduces the burden on designers and contributes to shortening development periods.

【Abundant External Adjustment and Protection Functions】
The output voltage setting can be changed using an external resistor, allowing the same part number to be deployed across multiple different power lines. Additionally, by connecting a resistor and capacitor to the EN/SS pin, the soft-start time can be externally adjusted to be longer than the internal soft-start. Furthermore, the power good function allows monitoring of the output voltage status, making it easy to configure complex power sequences by combining these functions. In terms of safety, it incorporates comprehensive protection functions such as current limit, output overvoltage protection, thermal shutdown, and Lx pin short-circuit protection, contributing to improved reliability for various electronic devices, including industrial equipment with advanced requirements.
