Event Official Website

Since 2019, our company has set forth three sustainability visions as our sustainable policy: 'An Earth-friendly hotel, a City-friendly hotel, and a People-friendly hotel'. Deeply recognizing the perspective of SDGs, we aim to realize a sustainable society through our hotel business.

'Mottainai Grandma' is a picture book that conveys the meaning and importance of the word 'mottainai' (no waste) to children. The story features a grandmother who looks a bit scary but teaches important life lessons. Among the 17 works in the series, 'Mottainai Grandma's Itadakimasu' conveys the appreciation for carefully grown food, the meals prepared with the desire for them to be eaten deliciously, and the importance of being thankful for the lives we consume and eating without leaving anything behind.

Our company planned this interactive event so parents and children can learn about the importance of 'mottainai' together through cooking classes, food education lectures, and dining. So far, the event has been held in Shibuya on August 24, 2025, in Osaka on November 3, and at a hotel in Futakotamagawa on February 23, 2026, with a total of 88 guests from 36 groups participating.

We wanted to bring this event to everyone in the Chubu and Tokai regions for its 4th installment, deciding to hold it at the Nagoya Tokyu Hotel.

Some customer feedback from the 1st to 3rd events (From participant questionnaires):
- The event raised my awareness of reducing food waste.
- I could clearly see my child, who usually leaves food easily, trying hard to eat it all, realizing they were truly learning.
- We read the picture book 'Mottainai Grandma' a lot, so learning through actual experience was very enjoyable.
- I had never heard of such a food education event. It was a great learning experience for both parent and child.
- Because the food education was developed around the motif of the picture book, I think it was easy for the children to get interested.
- Adults also enjoyed experiencing tastes like sweet and salty firsthand.
- The hotel staff's service was very warm. The atmosphere was calm and not stiff at all from start to finish, allowing us to enjoy it with peace of mind.

The theme of the cooking class is making icing cookies using vegetable scraps, designed so participants can learn happily with pastry chefs and hotel staff. We will provide chef hats and coats for children, allowing them to feel like real pastry chefs. The cookies completed on the day will be taken home. We will also present you with the recipe so you can utilize it at home.

After taking the food education lecture themed on 'Taste', during the dining session in the latter half of the event, you will enjoy an original full-course meal devised by the hotel's head chef under the theme of 'mottainai'.

As a commemorative gift for participating, children will receive exclusive 'Mottainai Grandma' illustration stickers and a certificate of completion.
