Tokyu Resort Town Katsuura Donates Equipment for Next-Generation Sport "Pickleball" to Katsuura City Public Elementary Schools

Tokyu Resort Town Katsuura (Katsuura City, Chiba Prefecture, General Manager: Katsumi Inami) has donated sets of paddles and dedicated balls for "pickleball," a sport gaining attention as a next-generation sport, to all public elementary schools in Katsuura City, as part of its initiative to support the healthy physical and mental development of local children. In light of the current situation where opportunities for outdoor physical activity are decreasing due to the spread of smartphones and game consoles, and recent record-breaking heatwaves, we will provide new opportunities for exercise that can be enjoyed safely indoors, regardless of the weather.

Delivering the "Joy of Movement" to Children in Collaboration with the Community

Due to the spread of smartphones and game consoles, and restrictions on outdoor activities caused by recent record-breaking heatwaves, children have fewer opportunities for sufficient physical activity during their developmental years. This is a concern not only for musculoskeletal development but also for the development of social skills through interaction with friends and emotional stability. To address these challenges, Tokyu Resort Town Katsuura is donating pickleball equipment to all public elementary schools in Katsuura City, supporting the creation of an environment where it can be easily incorporated into physical education classes and recreational activities. We will continue to engage in activities that contribute to the healthy growth of the children who will lead the next generation, in collaboration with the community.

Pop-up "Pickleball Paddles" to Spark Children's Curiosity

The paddles being donated feature original designs with the themes of "Sky, Rainbow, and Stars" so that children will be interested and use them with affection for a long time. The vast sky symbolizes the "infinite possibilities" of children, the colorful rainbow symbolizes "respect for individuality," and the stars shining in the night sky symbolize "future goals." We hope that by holding these paddles, children will develop a bright and positive outlook and walk forward with strength.

About "Pickleball"

Pickleball is a sport that combines elements of table tennis, tennis, and badminton, and is a sport of growing interest with an increasing number of players worldwide, starting in the United States. The paddles are wide and the balls are light, making it easy for children who are not good at sports or beginners to keep rallies going and enjoy moving their bodies. Furthermore, badminton poles and nets can be used as they are, and no special construction is required for introduction in gymnasiums, allowing it to be incorporated into classes and recreation immediately.

Tokyu Resort Town Katsuura has two outdoor pickleball courts at Katsuura Tokyu Sunny Park within the town, where anyone can easily enjoy pickleball in an open environment.
