Tokyo Metro Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Taito-ku, Tokyo; President: Akihiro Kosaka; hereinafter "Tokyo Metro") has been promoting the installation of platform doors with the aim of preventing accidents such as falling from platforms onto the tracks or contact with trains, and to ensure that customers can use our services with greater peace of mind. We are pleased to announce that with the scheduled commencement of service at Baraki-Nakayama Station on the Tozai Line on Saturday, March 28, 2026, the installation will be completed at all stations on all Tokyo Metro lines (9 lines, 180 stations)*.
Tokyo Metro first introduced platform doors in November 1991, at the time of the Namboku Line's opening (between Komagome and Akabane-Iwabuchi stations), making it the first subway in Japan to do so. Subsequently, in June 2017, we announced a plan to install platform doors on all lines, and the number of falling accidents has decreased as the installation rate has increased.
Tokyo Metro will continue to strive for safe and stable operation and to provide high-quality transportation services.
* For some platforms at Minami-Sunamachi Station on the Tozai Line, which is undergoing large-scale renovation work, installation is planned based on the progress of the construction.
