Tokyo Shoseki Collaborates on Japan Iron and Steel Federation's Digital Learning Material "Hatsuratsu Tetsugaku"

Tokyo Shoseki Co., Ltd. announced on May 26, 2026, its collaboration with the Japan Iron and Steel Federation to produce a digital version of "Hatsuratsu Tetsugaku," a supplementary social studies resource for fifth-grade primary school students.

"Hatsuratsu Tetsugaku" is designed to provide primary school students with an accessible understanding of everyday steel products and the steel industry. Following the distribution of printed booklets to schools nationwide, a digital version was developed to leverage the advancement of the GIGA School Concept, which has provided tablet devices to students across Japan.

The digital version builds upon the original content with several enhancements:

1. Explanations presented through a story-driven format featuring engaging characters.
2. Interactive games where students search for steel products in their daily lives.
3. Pop-up displays of 57 high-impact photographs showing steel manufacturing facilities.
4. Access to 13 animations and videos explaining the steel-making process.

The content is designed for use within the "Industrial Production" unit of the Grade 5 primary school social studies curriculum. It is fully compliant with the current national curriculum guidelines and was supervised by the National Association for the Study of Social Studies in Primary Schools.

For educators, three types of detailed lesson plans are provided for download, facilitating easy classroom integration. Both the student and teacher websites are available free of charge.
