Tiffany & Co. extends its heartfelt congratulations to the New York Knicks on winning the NBA Finals and claiming the iconic Larry O'Brien Trophy.
Tiffany's partnership with the NBA spans 49 years, during which the brand has been responsible for the design and craftsmanship of the Larry O'Brien Trophy since 1977. In 2022, the trophy was refreshed with its current design.
Crafted from sterling silver with a gold vermeil finish, the trophy captures the dynamic moment of a basketball swishing through the net. Standing approximately 64.8 centimeters (25.5 inches) tall and weighing about 13.6 kilograms (30 pounds), each trophy is meticulously handcrafted annually at Tiffany's Hollowware Workshop in Cumberland, Rhode Island, USA.
Artisans employ traditional techniques such as spinning, silversmithing, chasing, hand engraving, and polishing, dedicating approximately seven months to complete each piece. The total labor time required to finish one trophy amounts to roughly 65 hours.
In addition to the Larry O'Brien Trophy, Tiffany also crafts other prestigious basketball awards, including the Bill Russell NBA Finals MVP Award, the WNBA Championship Trophy, and the NBA Eastern and Western Conference Championship trophies.
