Terra Drone Corporation (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; Representative: Toru Tokushige; hereinafter 'Terra Drone') announced on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, the simultaneous launch of two products: 'Terra LiDAR 4,' the next-generation model of its top-share UAV-mounted laser scanner 'Terra LiDAR' series, and 'Terra SLAM TRINITY,' a next-generation hybrid SLAM (hereinafter 'handheld SLAM') supporting 3DGS (3D Gaussian Splatting).
'Terra LiDAR 4' boasts overwhelming high-end specifications, including a maximum of 2 million points/second, 16 returns, and dual cameras, despite its low price, and is fully compatible with public surveying.
'Terra SLAM TRINITY' is an innovative model that integrates conventional GNSS surveying instruments with handheld SLAM, and further supports 3DGS, the latest trend. Both products aim to accelerate DX in the surveying and construction industries and fulfill the mission of our Civil Engineering Business Division, 'A New Standard for Civil Engineering,' by achieving 'overwhelming specifications and price.'
(*1) First in Japan as an integrated model of GNSS receiver, handheld SLAM, and 3DGS generation function, according to our own research.
Background and Purpose of Implementation/Demonstration/Development
In Japan's construction and surveying industries, chronic labor shortages and an aging workforce, coupled with an urgent need for further productivity improvement, are pressing issues. However, high-precision 3D measurement equipment remains expensive, posing a high barrier to introduction. Terra Drone aims to break through this 'cost barrier' and create a world where high-precision 3D data is utilized at all sites. These new products were developed to widely spread digitalization to small and medium-sized sites by achieving a revolutionary low price without compromising performance, overturning conventional wisdom.
About the New Products
1. Terra LiDAR 4
'Terra LiDAR 4' is a UAV-mounted laser scanner that boasts overwhelming specifications unmatched by other low-priced LiDARs currently sold in Japan.
Feature ① High-end performance fully compatible with public surveying at one-third the conventional cost
Through proprietary technological innovation, we have achieved an extremely low cost, approximately one-third that of conventional high-precision UAV-mounted laser scanners. It fully clears the accuracy required for public surveying (±5cm), allowing for confident introduction into i-Construction projects by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.
Feature ② Overwhelming point cloud density and permeability: Max 2 million points/second, 16 returns, dual cameras
It can irradiate up to 2 million points per second, reproducing minute undulations of terrain and edges of structures with extreme clarity. Furthermore, by equipping high-resolution dual cameras, it achieves realistic coloring of point cloud data and simultaneous acquisition of highly visible orthophotos. In addition, with 16 returns, the ground surface point cloud acquisition rate is significantly improved even in mountainous areas with extremely dense vegetation. Data can be efficiently acquired even in complex terrains that were difficult with conventional equipment, enabling wider area measurement in a single flight.
2. Terra SLAM TRINITY
'Terra SLAM TRINITY' is a '3-in-1' next-generation measurement device not yet released in Japan. It integrates conventional surveying methods and the latest technology into a single device.
Feature ① Trinity of 'GNSS × SLAM × Photogrammetry'
This product integrates high-precision positioning by multi-GNSS (GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou, QZSS) and handheld SLAM functionality for mobile measurement. Furthermore, by supporting the latest '3DGS (3D Gaussian Splatting)' technology, it generates extremely realistic 3D models that are as good as actual photographs, surpassing conventional point cloud data.
The 'accuracy' of GNSS, the 'mobility' of SLAM, and the 'reproducibility' of 3DGS. This Trinity of technologies will dramatically evolve measurement operations at all sites.
Feature ② Revolution in 'Visibility' with 3DGS support
With 3DGS technology, the fine textures and colors of sites that were difficult to distinguish with conventional point cloud data can be visualized with near-photorealistic quality. This promotes an unprecedented intuitive understanding for site confirmation, explanations to clients, and utilization in BIM/CIM models.
Future Outlook
Terra Drone will not only provide equipment but also offer solutions that support the entire workflow, from planning, measurement, analysis, mapping, to delivery. Under the mission 'A New Standard for Civil Engineering' advocated by the Civil Engineering Business Division, we will constantly pursue technological innovation that stays close to the field and accelerate DX in the surveying and construction industries through advanced 3D solutions.
