<The students of the Video Media Department who won the "Gold Award">

Technos College (Tokyo Kogakuin College of Technology / Tokyo Air Travel Hotel College) is a diverse vocational school that gathers a total of 30 departments. Recently, a video work produced by first-year students of our Video Media Department won the "Gold Award," which corresponds to the grand prize, at the "Vocational School Video Festival ~ 90-Second Video Contest." This contest was held on Monday, March 16, at the "44th Vocational School Video Festival" organized by the Tokyo Metropolitan Association of Vocational and Miscellaneous Schools, with 10 vocational schools in Tokyo participating this year.

The theme of the "90-Second Video Contest," the main event of the festival, was "Horror Lurking in Everyday Life (lol)." Students from each school visually expressed trivial daily events as horror from their unique perspectives. On the day of the event, each school's works were screened on a movie theater screen, and the students themselves delivered passionate presentations.

Our Video Media Department's work, "No Paper," received high praise for its well-paced depiction of the protagonist's impatience and conflict within a limited space, as well as its humorous direction using diverse camera work, successfully winning the award.

Technos College will continue to promote activities that nurture students' creativity and expressive skills, aiming for even greater achievements in the future.

About the Vocational School Video Festival

The Vocational School Video Festival is a festival jointly operated across school boundaries by students of vocational schools and advanced vocational schools studying video in Tokyo. Every year, various video content produced by students is screened, and symposiums are held on diverse themes related to video. The video festival is an excellent opportunity to see video works made by students from other schools that one rarely encounters, and it is also a place to deepen exchanges with students from other schools studying video. For high school students aspiring to enter the video industry, it is a valuable opportunity to see the works of their seniors studying at vocational schools all in one place.

About the Winning Work

Work Title: "No Paper" Technos College, Tokyo Kogakuin College of Technology, Video Media Department

Story A 90-second short film that comically depicts a restroom trouble that everyone has imagined at least once. Taro, who has an important presentation coming up at the office, rushes to the restroom. However, he is faced with the worst possible situation: the washlet is out of order, and there is no toilet paper. With female employees outside, unable to leave the cubicle, Taro desperately searches for a solution. The film humorously captures a trivial event lurking in daily life as "horror," expressing the protagonist's impatience and conflict within a limited space at a brisk pace.

Impressions from the Award-Winning Student <Technos College, Tokyo Kogakuin College of Technology, Video Media Department, 1st Year, Aoka Shioiri>

This award is for a work that involved 13 members, and it brought great joy to the entire team. In the work, with the intention of conveying the situation straightforwardly within the short time of 90 seconds, we devised camera angles such as expressing multiple situations on one screen and exaggerating the performers' expressions to convey "horror." In addition, at the contest, we saw works from other schools that made full use of CG and other techniques, which became a valuable opportunity to learn about various methods of shooting and editing. I aspire to work in the field of video production in the future, and I feel that my experience serving as the "director" this time has become my own asset.
