Takeo Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Junichi Hirado) will launch a limited quantity of system notebooks, combining Ise Gikakushi washi paper for the exterior and Italian leather for the interior, under the TAKEO PAPER PRODUCTS brand.

'Ise Gikakushi' is a material that combines the lightness of paper with a leather-like texture. The lineup includes three sizes: Bible, Mini 6, and M5. It is available in two colors: Shikon (deep purplish-blue) and Ao (blue-green).

While digitalization is advancing, the need to find value in 'writing' and 'possessing' is increasing, and interest in analog experiences and the tools themselves is expanding.

Takeo Co., Ltd. has been engaged in initiatives to expand the possibilities of paper as a material for many years. Furthermore, starting in 2024, we began offering planner refills made with fine papers rich in color and texture, developing products that focus not only on writing comfort but also on the texture of the paper itself.

Against this backdrop, we focused on paper as a material for daily life, leading to the development of this product.

The Material 'Ise Gikakushi'

Ise Gikakushi, processed washi paper

The 'Ise Gikakushi' used for the exterior is a material made by processing washi paper to give it a leather-like texture and durability. Its history dates back to the Edo period, when it was created as a substitute for leather, which was scarce at the time.

Although there are various theories, it is said that Ise Gikakushi tobacco pouches were widely popular because leather products were considered inappropriate to bring to Ise Jingu Shrine, as they might evoke thoughts of killing animals. The technology, which had once disappeared, has been revived by craftsmen and is still produced one by one by hand.

Despite being paper, Ise Gikakushi has a leather-like texture, is supple, resistant to creases and bends, and becomes more familiar with use. Its unique charm lies in how it develops a distinct expression with each use, accompanied by changes in wrinkles and color.

Interior Leather

Italian chrome-tanned leather 'Adria' with a rich, textured grain is used for the interior.

The interior uses embossed shrink leather, characterized by its beautiful grain and supple texture. A reinforcing leather is used to prevent imprints from the metal rings, and the TAKEO PAPER PRODUCTS logo is embossed on it.

High-Precision Ring Mechanism

German KRAUSE ring mechanism adopted

The ring binders use German KRAUSE rings, which offer smooth opening and closing and a stable user experience. The ring diameter is 16mm for the Bible size and 13mm for the Mini 6 and M5 sizes.

Size and Color Variations

Available in 3 sizes to suit your needs, in two colors: Shikon and Ao.
