With over 160 years of accumulated innovation and refined watchmaking expertise, TAG Heuer has consistently woven the chronograph like a "red thread," forging a unique path that other manufacturers cannot follow. The newly announced "TAG Heuer Monaco Evergraph" symbolizes the pinnacle of this achievement. This model marks a new chapter in TAG Heuer's unique watchmaking savoir-faire, expressed through an entirely new mechanical structure and an avant-garde interpretation of its iconic square case. An Unrivaled Bond with the Chronograph Since its founding in 1860, TAG Heuer has pioneered numerous patented technologies to enhance the precision, durability, and reliability of timekeeping instruments. In the 1880s, under the leadership of Edouard Heuer, various patented technologies were developed to dramatically improve the durability and reliability of Heuer timepieces. These included improvements to the oscillating pinion, a unique keyless winding mechanism, and highly airtight cases. These technological advancements were widely covered in magazines of the time, and Heuer's outstanding watchmaking expertise in stopwatches, split-second mechanisms, and chronographs was highly praised. In the early 20th century, under Charles-Auguste Heuer, further groundbreaking inventions followed. In 1908, the "Sphygmometer" was unveiled, featuring a patented pulsometer scale on the dial. This was followed in 1911 by the first dashboard chronograph, a series of instruments that later evolved into the iconic "Autavia" of the 1930s. Furthermore, in 1916, the "Micrograph," the world's first stopwatch with 1/100th of a second precision, appeared, establishing timekeeping standards adopted in the world's top competitions. Entering the 1940s, the design codes for modern wrist chronographs were established, and the "Seafarer," the first chronograph watch with a tide indicator function, was announced. In the 1950s, a decisive policy symbolizing the Maison's identity was introduced: to dedicate itself to the manufacture of chronograph timepieces, focusing all its accumulated expertise on this complication. In the 1960s, under the leadership of Jack Heuer, the Maison entered a new era, successively launching iconic models such as the "Autavia" and "Carrera." In 1966, the "Microtimer" achieved 1/1000th of a second precision, once again impressing with the brand's unwavering pursuit of high oscillation. In 1969, this momentum culminated in two major milestones: first, the birth of the original "Heuer Monaco," which redefined the concept of watch design as the world's first square automatic chronograph with water resistance; and second, the appearance of the "Calibre 11," the world's first commercially available automatic chronograph movement. In 2024, the "TAG Heuer Monaco Split-Seconds Chronograph" was introduced, laying the foundation for the subsequent "TAG Heuer Avant-Garde Horlogerie." Chronograph Revolution The story of TAG Heuer, woven through its history, is symbolized by its unique innovations created with the purpose of further enhancing the watch owner's experience. The Calibre TH80-00, installed in the new "TAG Heuer Monaco Evergraph," fully embodies this vision. The Calibre "TH80-00," equipped with a unique compliant chronograph mechanism composed of flexible components developed with proprietary technology by the TAG Heuer Lab, reinterprets both the functionality and tactile feel of the chronograph mechanism. This new movement, featuring a TH-Carbon Spring Oscillator, guarantees excellent magnetic resistance and precision, while also achieving a 5 Hz oscillation frequency, approximately 70 hours of power reserve, COSC certification, and a 5-year warranty. Each of these elements represents a significant milestone, but when combined, they mark a truly important moment for the Maison. The compliant chronograph mechanism itself is the most groundbreaking feature of this timepiece. This mechanism significantly differs from traditional chronograph structures, which have been characteristic since the chronograph's inception, by eliminating almost all levers and springs essential for each function such as start, stop, and reset. Instead, it employs two flexible bistable components: one controls activation and stopping, and the other handles resetting. These components were developed and refined over five years at the TAG Heuer Lab. Manufactured with high-precision LIGA technology, these bistable components enable quick and crisp switching of positions. Due to the meticulous adjustment and manufacturing precision of the chronograph, it consistently provides the same tactile feel and high accuracy from the first press of the push-button to the 10,000th operation, without aging or errors. The "TAG Heuer Monaco Evergraph" and its movement, the "TH80-00," embody a true chronograph revolution, realizing innovations directly linked to outstanding durability, reliability, and precision. Result of Multi-Disciplinary Teamwork This achievement is the result of five years of close collaboration among multiple stakeholders. At the core of the project was Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier, a renowned movement manufacturer. The company was also involved in the production of Calibres TH81-00 and TH81-01, which are installed in the "TAG Heuer Monaco Split-Seconds Chronograph" and "TAG Heuer Carrera Split-Seconds Chronograph." The "TH80-00," developed under the leadership of TAG Heuer in partnership with Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier, is centered around the groundbreaking compliant chronograph mechanism created by the TAG Heuer Lab. With an open-worked structure and an inverted construction, the barrel, gear train, and the balance wheel and escapement featuring the TH-Carbon Spring are clearly visible from the dial side. Additionally, a newly conceived automatic winding system elevates this movement to haute horlogerie specifications. While inheriting the design philosophy established with the TH81-00 for split-seconds, it adopts a shielded rotor. The back of the movement features TAG Heuer's signature checkered flag finish. Building on the efforts initiated with the "TAG Heuer Monaco Split-Seconds Chronograph," a new, more ergonomic design has been conceived for the "TAG Heuer Monaco Evergraph." The origin of its silhouette dates back to the original Ref. 1133 model from 1969. A harmonious structure connects the movement and the case, significantly enhancing ergonomic comfort and wrist presence while respecting the identity and distinctive codes of this iconic model. Elegant arches secure the barrel and escapement, while the small seconds and chronograph minute counters create a symmetrical design that conveys structural depth. The transparent dial creates an ethereal impression, as if each display is floating within the case. Featuring the signature left-side crown established with the original "Calibre 11" in 1969, along with newly adopted elongated push-buttons, this model showcases a redesigned 40 mm Grade 5 titanium case guided by ergonomics. The square sapphire case back contributes to a new dimension of wearing comfort on the wrist, while allowing full appreciation of the square movement developed to perfectly fit the "TAG Heuer Monaco" case. The tapered shape creates a visually slimming effect. In contrast, sharp facets along the case edges give the watch a monolithic, architectural presence, as if wearing a brutalist architectural work on the wrist. The "TAG Heuer Monaco Evergraph" is available in two modern editions that pay homage to the Maison's rich history. The first is a titanium model with blue accents, reminiscent of the Ref. 1133B favored by Steve McQueen. The second is a black DLC-coated titanium model with striking red accents, inspired by TAG Heuer's racing DNA and signature color palette.
