SUS Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto City; President and Representative Director: Kimio Saito; hereinafter 'SUS') has conducted a 'Next-Generation AI Hybrid Engineer' training program for new graduate engineers joining the company in April 2026, utilizing generative AI.
Through this training, SUS redefined that in an era where AI handles the majority of code generation, engineers must possess essential 'design skills' and 'requirements definition skills' to accurately direct AI. SUS will contribute to corporate DX promotion by fostering engineers who can lead entire projects from the upstream process, not just learning programming languages.
[Towards Resolving the 'AI Gap' Facing Japan]
Currently, while the global generative AI adoption rate has reached about 80% in the United States and about 70% in Germany, Japan remains at just under 50% (IPA 'DX Trends 2025'). Particularly among domestic small and medium-sized enterprises, about 80% have responded that they have 'no plans to introduce' AI, raising concerns about a decline in international competitiveness. Amidst this, technological evolution is enabling AI to execute system code generation with high accuracy. As AI transforms from a mere convenient tool into an excellent assistant, it is essential for engineers to have the ability to make AI function accurately and master its use.
To quickly respond to these changes in 'engineer requirements in the AI era,' SUS has revamped its new graduate training based on the know-how from its AI training courses (Note 1) and AI solutions sold to clients.
[Design and Requirements Definition Skills for Directing AI]
This training introduced a 'vibe coding' curriculum where development is conducted solely through natural language instructions, implementing a practical program using the latest AI development tool 'Google Antigravity.' The main features are as follows:
Focus on Upstream Processes (Requirements Definition and Design) Whether AI functions as intended depends on the precision of instructions given by human engineers. Therefore, the training focused not merely on learning programming syntax but on strengthening 'design skills' and 'requirements definition skills' to oversee the entire system and accurately articulate requirements.
Acquisition of AI Direction Skills
Trainees participated in exercises where they treated AI as an excellent assistant, dividing complex tasks and issuing instructions. They cultivated precise communication skills to 'make AI write code' and skills to verify the validity of the generated code.
[Survey Results: Approximately 90% of Trainees Reportedly Felt the Importance of Upstream Processes]
A post-training survey of trainees confirmed quantitative changes in awareness along with qualitative feedback indicating high motivation for future practical work.
[Future Outlook]
Going forward, SUS will further strengthen the development of personnel who can grasp entire projects from the upstream process and direct AI, in addition to acquiring basic coding skills. Based on this educational model cultivated through in-house training, SUS will support the development of Japanese industry as an engineering group capable of effectively utilizing AI and undertaking higher value-added proposals and problem-solving at client sites.
