From Saturday, September 19, 2026, to Wednesday, September 23, 2026, we will hold a camp event for 5th graders to junior high school students titled "Sailing Day! ~Miyake Island Blue Adventure~," a 3-night, 5-day program (including one night on the ship). With the catchphrase "For you who have never seen the sea! For you who don't know the saltiness of seawater, embark on a blue adventure on Miyake Island!", this is an inspiring nature experience program that begins with a departure on an overnight ferry. Utilizing our expertise in nature experience activities cultivated in Nagatoro, we will provide a safe and secure camp that fosters children's independence, cooperation, and a spirit of challenging the unknown.
Background and Vision of the Project
"We want to deliver the real 'blue' to children in Saitama who don't know the sea."
We regularly provide experience activities that support children's growth, using the rich mountains and rivers of Nagatoro Town, Saitama Prefecture, as our stage. However, among children growing up in Saitama, a prefecture without a coastline, there are those who "have never seen the real sea up close" or "don't know the saltiness of seawater."
Therefore, in line with the spirit of the "Let's Create a Wind of Experience" movement (National Institute of Youth Education and Training) which emphasizes that childhood experiences form the foundation of life, we have planned a grand adventure on Miyake Island, a Tokyo outlying island, with support from the "Children's Dream Fund." By stepping away from daily life and experiencing the sound of the waves, the scent of the tide, the starry sky, and the dynamic terrain created by volcanoes, we have a strong desire to deliver lifelong inspiration and an opportunity for growth that will make them a little bigger.
Highlights of the 3-Night, 5-Day Program Engaging All Five Senses, Starting with the Sea Voyage!
Departure on an Overnight Ferry: On the night of the first day, board a large passenger ship from Takeshiba Pier. The adventure begins with an exciting voyage towards landing on the island the next morning.
Snorkeling to Experience the Charms of the Sea: Interact with colorful fish and marine life in the waters of Miyake Island, known for their exceptional clarity.
Geo-Learning & Bird Watching to Learn About Nature: Stimulate scientific curiosity through lava trekking unique to a volcanic island, workshops on Miyake Island's indigenous nature and culture, and stargazing during a night hike.
"Safety and Security" and Trust Unique to a Saitama Prefectural Facility
After participants are selected, a "Pre-Briefing Session (held on July 19th, mandatory attendance)" will be held to carefully explain the activity details, safety management, and preparations to parents. Furthermore, throughout the entire program, we will thoroughly implement an operational system that prioritizes children's safety (activities will proceed in light rain, flexible program changes according to weather and sea conditions, appropriate decisions on tent or indoor camping, etc.). We have prepared an environment where you can confidently send your children, even for their first solo trip or long-term camp.
Comments from Staff
[Public Relations Representative's Comment]
"This project started with a single remark: 'I'm in junior high school, but I've never been on a boat.' The ship sailing on the vast ocean at night, the bluest sea they've ever seen, and encounters with islanders will surely become the greatest treasures for children, something they can't learn from textbooks. Staff from a Saitama Prefectural facility and ocean professionals will serve as instructors, with maximum consideration for safety, and all staff will provide support with warmth like family. Won't you join us in seeing the island at dawn?"
