Suido Kiko Kaisha, Ltd. (Headquarters: Setagaya-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and President: Toru Furukawa; hereinafter "Suido Kiko"), which develops its main business in the design, construction, and management of water and sewage facilities, as well as environmental conservation and sanitation facilities, announces that it officially signed a contract for the "Kuri No. 1 Water Purification Plant Reconstruction Project" in Karatsu City, Saga Prefecture, in March 2026, and entered the design and construction period in April of the same year.
This project aims to solve issues such as the aging of Karatsu City's core water purification plant, "Kuri No. 1 Water Purification Plant," by constructing a new water purification plant on an adjacent site and transferring its functions. It will be implemented using a "Design-Build (DB) method," which leverages private sector know-how and ingenuity.
In recent years, in the water sector, against the backdrop of aging facilities and a shortage of personnel, the introduction of "Water PPP" (Public-Private Partnership) is progressing, utilizing the technical capabilities of private companies from design to construction, operation, and maintenance. Suido Kiko will enhance its responsiveness to the expected expansion of the Water PPP market by participating in DB method projects that cover design to construction, thereby contributing to the realization of sustainable water infrastructure.
【Background of the Construction】
Karatsu City's core water purification plant, "Kuri No. 1 Water Purification Plant," was completed in 1971. However, a long period of operation has led to significant issues such as aging and insufficient seismic performance. Furthermore, in the future, the Watada Water Purification Plant and Kanda Water Purification Plant, among others, are scheduled to be abolished and integrated into the "Kuri No. 1 Water Purification Plant" system, which will take on an even more critical role as a core water purification plant.
Therefore, with the aim of stably supplying high-quality, safe, and secure water for the future, a plan was devised to construct a new water purification plant on an adjacent site and transfer its functions.
This project has three business concepts: "a water purification plant resilient to natural disasters," "a water purification plant easy to maintain," and "an energy-efficient water purification plant." Suido Kiko will be responsible for the machinery (water treatment plant equipment) sector and will contribute to the construction of a sustainable system that can stably supply high-quality, safe, and secure tap water for the future. Suido Kiko will maximize its water treatment technology and know-how to advance the development of this facility.

【Kuri No. 1 Water Purification Plant Reconstruction and Relocation Project】
Based on Karatsu City's "Karatsu City Waterworks Business Vision" and "Karatsu City Waterworks Facility Development Plan," the aim is to build a sustainable water system. The reconstruction of the water purification plant through this project is an important initiative to realize safe and secure water services through disaster countermeasures and facility renewal.
Due to the aging and insufficient seismic performance of the core water purification plant, "Kuri No. 1 Water Purification Plant" (completed in 1971), it was decided to construct and relocate a new water purification plant with a capacity of 24,000㎥/day on an adjacent site, downsized from the current facility capacity of 33,200㎥/day.
