An Unprecedented College Admissions Information Media The YouTube channel 'OYA.BASE — A Comprehensive Selection Salon Where Parents Can Learn' has launched. Led by Yuto Nagawa of Study Coordinate and Junya Fukuzawa of STRIX, the channel delivers college admissions information centered on comprehensive selection (AO-style admissions) for parents of middle and high school students. In addition, a free X (formerly Twitter) community exclusively for parents is being operated. Any parent who wants to gather information about comprehensive selection or share their concerns is welcome to join. As tutors ourselves working with students daily, we have heard countless voices from parents who feel even more anxious than their children about comprehensive selection — an 'admissions process with no right answer.' 'I don't know how to support my child.' 'What is my role as a parent?' We launched this project out of a desire to create a place that can serve as a guide for fathers and mothers fighting this lonely battle.
Why We Created This Media Japanese university admissions are currently undergoing a major transformation. While the quota for comprehensive selection (formerly AO admissions) is expanding, evaluation criteria and preparation strategies remain largely opaque — raising concerns that information gaps and experience gaps could directly translate into gaps in children's options. For the parent generation in particular, this is an 'unknown territory' where their own admissions experience no longer applies. Rather than simply conveying test-taking techniques, we are launching this YouTube channel and X community to provide an opportunity to think about the 'fundamental nature of education' — how parents and children should face this challenge together and how they should communicate. Through this media, we aim to build a society where every parent can confidently cheer on their child's challenges. Features and Overview of This Project This channel is not just a passive media outlet. It operates as a 'community-based media' where members connect with one another. ① In-depth discussions by experts: Comprehensive selection professionals invite guests to provide thorough explanations of admissions trends and the essence of evaluation criteria. ② Dedicated online salon for parents: Using an X (Twitter) community, a free space is provided where parents facing similar challenges can exchange information and consult with each other in real time. ③ Building interactive content: A participatory format where experts respond to concerns submitted by parents directly within videos is also incorporated.
