In response to the approaching powerful typhoon, the New Taipei City Disaster Prevention Center elevated its operational status to Level 1 at 8:00 a.m. today (10th). At 8:30 a.m., Mayor Hou You-ih presided over the second coordination meeting to comprehensively review typhoon preparedness measures. Drawing lessons from past typhoons with similar paths—Typhoons Soudelor and Sura—the mayor instructed all departments to strengthen preparations in high-risk areas and initiate preventive evacuations in regions prone to isolation or landslides to minimize typhoon impacts.
Following the meeting, Mayor Hou immediately led the city government team on typhoon preparedness inspections, directing deputy secretaries-general and above to split into six teams to inspect disaster-prone areas across the city. The mayor personally visited the construction site of the Circular Line MRT, Zouhe Bridge over Dabao Creek, slope reinforcement projects in the Jinxiu and Biyao communities of Xindian, and the disaster response equipment staging area at Wulai District Office, verifying the adequacy of engineering safeguards, tourist evacuations, and disaster response capabilities.
Additionally, two deputy mayors, the secretary-general, and deputy secretaries-general were dispatched to administrative districts including Tucheng, Sanxia, Xizhi, Shiding, Pinglin, Wanli, Jinshan, Ruifang, Tamsui, Sanzhi, Shimen, Bali, and Wulai. They inspected district offices, disaster preparedness, pumping facilities, and evacuation shelters to fully grasp frontline response conditions and ensure all preventive measures are properly implemented.
According to forecasts from the Central Weather Administration and Weather Risk Company, the typhoon may bring torrential to extreme rainfall to mountainous areas of New Taipei City, with heavy to torrential rain expected in lowland areas. Cumulative rainfall is projected to reach 300 to 800 millimeters. The city government has proactively deployed resources for landslides, slope failures, and flood-prone zones, aiming to complete the preventive evacuation of 1,395 high-risk residents by 6:00 p.m. today, avoiding disruptions from intensified nighttime winds and rain.
Mayor Hou also visited disaster preparedness outposts to encourage frontline personnel and military personnel assisting in disaster response, thanking them for their dedication. He urged all departments to maintain high alertness and execute typhoon preparations with maximum efficiency to minimize disaster impacts.
Mayor Hou warned citizens that winds and rain will gradually intensify from this afternoon. He advised avoiding activities in mountainous areas, rivers, and coastal zones, and urged vigilance against falling trees, signage, and debris. Residents should prioritize personal safety when outdoors and comply with all traffic and alert regulations.
