Tokyo Port has been proceeding with the redevelopment of the Oi Public Wharf since Reiwa 5 (2023), and a portion of the area will now open. In conjunction with this opening, the lessee operator of Oi Public Wharf will introduce and commence operation of remote-controlled RTGs*, the first of their kind in Tokyo Port. This initiative will significantly contribute to the realization of a sustainable Tokyo Port by ensuring a comfortable and safe working environment, among other benefits. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the national government are providing partial support for the introduction costs of this cargo handling machinery. * RTG is an abbreviation for "Rubber Tired Gantry Crane," a giant gantry crane used for transporting containers within a container yard. 1. Introduction Objectives (1) Ensuring a Comfortable and Safe Working Environment Previously, operators controlled the machinery from the driver's seat. With the introduction of this new machinery, operations can be performed from an office, leading to a significant improvement in the working environment. (2) Streamlining Terminal Operations The promotion of DX, including the integration of remote cargo handling operations with a reservation system for container loading and unloading, will lead to more efficient terminal operations. (3) Promoting Decarbonization This cargo handling machinery is of a type that can be converted to a fuel cell (FC) power source. Upon conversion, it will promote the decarbonization of Tokyo Port through the utilization of hydrogen energy. 2.
