1. Background and Objectives Okazaki City (joint proposers: Aichi Prefecture and Mitsubishi Motors Corporation) was selected as a "Second Batch of Front-Runner Regions for Decarbonization" in November 2022 and is promoting initiatives to achieve "Zero Carbon City by 2050."*8 As part of this initiative, the city will electrify 68 public vehicles and implement this project, allowing citizens and tourists to use them for shopping and sightseeing after business hours on weekdays and on holidays. The introduced EVs are all intended to operate on renewable energy electricity. Compared to conventional gasoline vehicles, an annual reduction of 80.7 t-CO₂ is expected. Furthermore, this project aims to promote the widespread adoption of EVs, reduce environmental impact through the penetration of the sharing economy, diversify transportation options, and effectively utilize public vehicles. *8. 4. Role Allocation Company Name Main Role Okazaki City Principal entity for this project NTT Business Solutions Corporation Provision of "N.mobi" service Sumitomo Mitsui Finance and Leasing Company, Limited Leasing of solar power generation equipment, storage batteries, and EV chargers Sumitomo Mitsui Auto Service Company, Limited Leasing and maintenance of EVs REXEV Inc. ・Provision of smart chargers and in-vehicle systems ・Service provision of EV car-sharing and vehicle management, charging control platform (e Mobility Management Platform: eMMP) Mitsubishi Motors Corporation ・Provision of "eK X EV" and "MINICAB-EV" to Okazaki City through Sumitomo Mitsui Auto Service Company, Limited ・Vehicle data linkage and data provision utilizing EV connected functions (see special notes below)
【Special Notes】 With "N.mobi" and eMMP, some vehicle data acquisition, which was traditionally handled by aftermarket onboard devices, can now be obtained through the connected functions of automobile manufacturers. This allows for minimizing the role of onboard devices, and is expected to lead to stabilization of service operation and reduction of maintenance workload. By utilizing vehicle data provided by automobile manufacturers, we will realize more efficient car-sharing operations. 5. Future Initiatives Okazaki City has a higher car ownership rate compared to the national average, and automobiles are closely involved in the lives of its citizens. Decarbonization in the transportation sector requires a shift to next-generation vehicles such as FCVs and EVs, and promotion of public transportation use, based on behavioral changes of citizens and businesses. Moving forward, we will encourage behavioral changes among citizens and businesses through public-private partnership initiatives like this project. Furthermore, Okazaki City will take the lead in electrifying public vehicles, and by promoting subsidies for the purchase of next-generation vehicles for households and businesses, and developing the usage environment such as EV charging stations, we will promote the spread of next-generation vehicles with low environmental impact. Additionally, NTT Business Solutions and the participating companies in this project will utilize their respective DX (Digital Transformation) and GX (Green Transformation) technologies to deploy this as a model case for "Decarbonization Domino Policy" to other municipalities, aiming to achieve carbon neutrality for society as a whole. ※The information contained in this press release is current as of the date of announcement.
