The first book by Rie Sekimoto, who raised twins with cerebral palsy as a single mother, will be published by Shogakukan on May 18, 2026.
She dresses up her sons, who are in wheelchairs, and she wears high heels, actively going out and experiencing various things. Her second son, Taiki, said he wanted to be a singer at age 10, and after a fateful encounter, he made his major debut in 2023. Last year, she appeared with Taiki as he sang on BS Asahi's program "Jinsei, Uta ga Aru" (Life Has Songs). "I want them to take on challenges without assuming it's impossible!" says the author. What are the author's thoughts toward a society aiming for DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion)?
The first book by Rie Sekimoto, mother of wheelchair singer Taiki Sekimoto, who made his major debut in December 2023. She married and became pregnant in her 20s. After giving birth to twin boys (Hiroki and Taiki), she learned they had cerebral palsy. How would she survive with her sons with disabilities as a family of three...? The struggles of a worried and bewildered "mother" and her interactions with the twins are sometimes extreme (!), sometimes heartwarming, and finally bring tears to the eyes... Problems pile up, but it's the beginning of a non-stop, rollercoaster life where she just pushes forward!
