Takashi Atoda, a master of short stories who has written over 900 works in his lifetime, released his final collection, 'With Love from the Palm: Takashi Atoda's Final Short Story Collection,' via Shinchosha on Wednesday, May 27. At 91 years old, the Naoki Prize-winning author presents a collection of 36 short-short stories, each under 10 pages of manuscript paper. Since his debut, Atoda has maintained his signature style of writing with pencil and paper. Regarding this publication, he stated, 'I have always felt that my hands themselves hold the ideas for my stories. While it has become harder to come up with good ideas in my old age, my desire to deliver high-quality stories to my readers remains unchanged. I decided to give it my final effort.' He also noted that while he likely won't write more fiction, he intends to continue writing essays. The book includes 36 stories written between 1993 and last year. Additionally, his essay collection '90 Years Old, Living Alone as a Man,' released last year, has surpassed 37,000 copies, proving the enduring appeal of his wisdom on aging.
