ANA Cargo Inc. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President & CEO: Kenichi Wakiya; hereinafter "ANA Cargo") and Satisfactory Inc., a waste management company (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Takeshi Komatsu; hereinafter "Satisfactory"), have started a resource circulation scheme using used plastics from air cargo transportation as resources in April 2026, in order to expand the resource circulation scheme to reduce waste generated from air cargo transportation.
ANA Cargo and Satisfactory have been working on the recycling of wooden pallets for air cargo at Narita Airport (from 2024) and Haneda Airport (from 2025). In addition to this, by newly deploying this initiative, we will strive to "maximize the resource value" of waste and challenge the evolution into sustainable air logistics.
We will promote the resource circulation of plastics in air cargo transportation in the following two steps. We expect to collect 135 tons of plastic films, etc., annually at Narita Airport and 120 tons annually at Haneda Airport.
Step 1 (Implementation at Haneda and Narita Airports)
We will promote the recycling of used plastic films for air cargo discharged by ANA Cargo through material recycling or chemical recycling.
Step 2 (Realization of Closed Loop)
We aim for advanced resource circulation by reusing the recycled plastic products at our own business sites. Specifically, the plastic film for air cargo collected through Satisfactory's network will be recycled into garbage bags made from recycled materials*1, and reused at ANA Cargo's business sites.
Through this initiative, we will realize a resource circulation scheme in which approximately 255 tons (expected collection amount) of plastic per year from both Narita and Haneda airports will be reused internally.
*1: Manufactured using 99% waste plastic
ANA Cargo and Satisfactory have implemented resource circulation of wooden transport materials (pallets, wooden boards, etc.) for air cargo at Narita Airport (from 2024) and Haneda Airport (from 2025).
Expansion of Recycling Record
As a result of FY2025, a total of approximately 901.1 tons of discarded wooden transport materials for air cargo were collected. (Total of Narita Airport and Haneda Airport)
Implementation of Resource Circulation
The wooden transport materials collected by the recycling partner are turned into wood chips and recycled as MDF boards*2, and reused by ANA Cargo as materials for transporting cargo safely and efficiently.
*2: Manufactured using 33% waste wood. MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) board: A type of wood board called medium density fiberboard.
Pursuit of Economic Rationality
ANA Cargo and Satisfactory have built a scheme to maximize the resource value of the entire business while reducing the environmental burden by optimizing reverse logistics and examining recycling routes through this initiative.
