Sumitomo Forestry Co., Ltd. (President: Toshiro Mitsuyoshi; Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) will launch the 'Sumirin Denki 0' service in April for owners of 'Sumitomo Forestry Homes' and customers who have completed renovation work through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Sumitomo Forestry Home Tech Co., Ltd. This service makes the CO2 emissions from the electricity used by customers effectively zero, marking the first such initiative by a housing manufacturer for detached home owners (*1). The system offsets CO2 emissions generated during power production by adding non-fossil fuel certificates (renewable energy designated) (*2), which represent the environmental value derived from renewable energy, to the electricity supplied by retail electricity partners. The company aims to promote ZEH (Net Zero Energy Houses), expand environmentally friendly power supply to homeowners, and achieve SBT (*3) targets to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across the entire Sumitomo Forestry Group value chain by 2050. ■ 'Sumirin Denki 0' Overview Target: Owners of 'Sumitomo Forestry Homes' and customers who have renovated with 'Sumitomo Forestry Home Tech'. Region: Nationwide (excluding Okinawa). Service Start: April 1st. Application Start: February 5th: Tokyo, Kanagawa, Saitama, Chiba, Ibaraki, Tochigi, Gunma; March 10th: Osaka, Kyoto, Hyogo, Shiga, Nara, Wakayama; Late April: Other regions. Application Method: Via the application page on the owner-exclusive site 'clubforest'. Electricity Rates: Approximately 1% cheaper than the general household plans of regional power companies (former general electricity utilities) (*4). Other: If selling surplus electricity after the FIT period ends, the power supply contract will be bundled. (*1) Based on publicly available information, this is the first initiative by a domestic housing manufacturer for detached home owners. The company acts on behalf of the electricity provider to solicit and process applications for this service. (*2) Non-fossil value (environmental value) derived from electricity generated by 'non-fossil power sources' that do not use fossil fuels like coal or oil, which is separated and converted into certificates for trading. (*3) Science Based Targets (SBT) are greenhouse gas emission reduction targets based on scientific evidence to keep the rise in global average temperature below 2°C compared to pre-industrial levels. The SBTi (SBT initiative) was established in 2015 by the UN Global Compact, CDP, World Resources Institute (WRI), and World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). (*4) Based on comparisons calculated by the company using publicly available information. ■ Background and Significance In 2019, the company began accepting applications for 'Sumirin Denki' to purchase surplus electricity from homeowners whose solar power feed-in tariff (FIT) periods were expiring. Since 2021, the purchased electricity has been utilized at the company's domestic housing business offices and showrooms. By combining the use of this 'Sumirin Denki' with the purchase of non-fossil certificates (*5), the share of renewable energy in the electricity used by the company's domestic housing business reached 100% in 2025. Furthermore, the amount of electricity purchased through 'Sumirin Denki' in 2025 reached 21.2 GWh, exceeding the total electricity consumption of the domestic housing business of 16.5 GWh (*6)...
