Why is a construction site supervisor's job so demanding? Achieving a "work style without going to the site" through Construction DX.
Our company endorses April Dream, which aims to make April 1st a day to announce dreams. This press release represents the dream of "Seiko Estate & Development Co., Ltd."
"Why has the job of a construction site supervisor become so demanding?"
Seiko Estate & Development Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture / Representative Director: Masatoshi Takagi), a construction company headquartered in Fukuoka City that directly contracts with real estate investors nationwide to support new apartment building investments and nursing home investments, endorses "April Dream" hosted by PR TIMES and announces its vision to create a world where construction site supervisors can be proud of their work through Construction DX.
The construction industry currently faces serious challenges such as 'long working hours,' 'labor shortages,' 'site residency,' and 'young people leaving the industry.' In response to this situation, we aim to transform the work style itself by building a system that allows 'site management without going to the site.'
The dream of "a site supervisor who doesn't go to the site"
Our dream is to "create a world where site supervisors are not tied to the site."
In the construction industry until now, working methods such as 'traveling to the site,' 'staying for long hours,' and 'manual confirmation' were commonplace. However, is much of that time truly necessary?
The true nature of inefficiency lies in "structure"
Representative Director Takagi says: "There are times when it takes two hours round trip to confirm a site, but the actual confirmation takes only 10 minutes. This structure made me question if it was truly rational. I believe that problems 'just need to be solved.'
If the site supervisor's job is tough, we just need to remove the causes one by one. Thinking this way, I realized that 'the work style itself can be changed.'"
New work style realized with Construction DX
Seiko Estate & Development is currently working on building an environment where "multiple sites can be managed from the office" through 'remote confirmation using site cameras,' 'progress management using data,' 'information sharing on the cloud,' and 'utilization of AI and digital technology.'
Zero travel time, a job even for the inexperienced
These initiatives are bringing about changes such as 'reduction of travel time (to almost zero),' 'minimization of site residency,' 'simultaneous management of multiple sites,' and 'a system that can be handled even by inexperienced individuals.'
Comment from Representative Director Takagi: "If you look at the site with a camera, you can immediately grasp the progress. It's also possible to check multiple sites simultaneously, like a command center. This virtually eliminates travel time. Furthermore, an environment where even inexperienced people can grow while sharing information in the office has been established."
Aiming for "value enhancement" not just "efficiency"
What we are aiming for is not just mere efficiency. It is to "enhance the value of the construction site supervisor's job itself." If we don't change the structure where 'people quit because it's demanding' and 'the burden increases further because people quit,' the industry will not be sustainable.
Comment from Representative Director Takagi: "Inconvenience means there is room for improvement. I believe that if we eliminate inconveniences one by one, work will become more comfortable. And originally, work should be more enjoyable. Challenging, improving, and becoming capable. That process has a fun aspect, somewhat like club activities. That's why I want to make the job of a site supervisor something to be proud of."
Masatoshi Takagi (Representative Director, Seiko Estate & Development Co., Ltd.)
"Why is the job of a site supervisor so difficult?" That thought was the starting point of this initiative. It takes two hours round trip to confirm a site, but the actual confirmation takes 10 minutes. I wondered if this structure was truly necessary. I believe that problems "just need to be solved."
If the site supervisor's job is tough, we just need to remove the causes one by one. Thinking this way, I realized that "a system that allows management without going to the site" could be created.
In reality, we are gradually implementing such systems: grasping site progress with cameras, sharing status with data, and managing multiple sites from the office.
As a result, travel time has become almost zero, and an environment where even inexperienced people can work has become visible. I believe that work should originally be more enjoyable. Challenging, improving, and becoming capable. That process has a fun aspect, somewhat like club activities. That's why I want to make the job of a site supervisor something to be proud of. That is our dream.
Changing the future of the construction industry from Fukuoka
We aim to "create a new standard for the construction industry" through 'promotion of Construction DX,' 'work style reform,' and 'human resource development.' And we want to expand this initiative from Fukuoka nationwide.
