What is ESM?

"ESM (Essential Support Module)", developed with inspiration from the International Space Station's module structure and spacesuit life support systems, is a "multi-structured, detachable module bag" that won a special award at the "DuPont Tyvek Design Award 2023" hosted by DuPont in the US in 2023.

Designed with the concept of being usable both in space and on Earth, this bag incorporates hook-and-loop fasteners on the back of the ESM modules, inspired by how personal belongings are secured to walls with fasteners to prevent them from floating in microgravity environments like space stations. As a specification for space, it is a system bag that can be used like a closet by attaching modules to a wall.
(*Current fabric materials and accessories are not space-compatible)

The International Space Station (ISS) is an assembly of modules, and the life support system (LSS) of astronauts contains essential items for survival. ESM was born from the idea of combining modules like the ISS to create a single backpack, and storing indispensable items for daily life in modules according to their purpose, like the LSS.

Making stays in space comfortable. Attach ESM modules brought from Earth to a wall with hook-and-loop fasteners and use them as a closet.

Disseminating from Oita Prefecture, which has a spaceport,
"ESM -Active Model-" project collaborated with two local companies.

Oita Airport has been selected as Asia's first "horizontal spaceport", and in the future, Sierra Space Corporation's space plane "Dream Chaser" is scheduled to land there.
Oita Prefecture is also focusing on disaster prevention and disaster research in cooperation with Oita University. In resonance with these initiatives, the "ESM -Active Model-" project, originating from Oita Prefecture, has started.

In this project, we collaborated with two Oita Prefecture companies with unique expertise and technical capabilities, Fire and Disaster Prevention Co., Ltd. and Sato Waterproofing Co., Ltd., to develop and produce the new model "ESM -Active Model-", which is primarily for daily use but can also be utilized in disaster prevention and disaster scenarios.
By fusing the disaster prevention knowledge of Fire and Disaster Prevention Co., Ltd., a professional in disaster prevention, and the sewing technology cultivated by Sato Waterproofing Co., Ltd. in hard-use products, we have achieved both daily comfort and practicality in emergencies.

Through this product born in Oita Prefecture, we will disseminate new value to the whole country and the world.
