Save the Children Japan (President: Junichiro Ida, Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, hereafter Save the Children), an international NGO specialized in supporting children, will begin accepting applications for the "Hello! Baby Box." This initiative provides free newborn baby supplies to expectant and nursing mothers facing various difficulties, such as financial hardship, young pregnancies, large families, and single parenting, in order to guarantee children's rights to "grow up healthy, in a secure and safe environment" from birth.

According to a questionnaire survey* published by Save the Children in March 2026 targeting economically disadvantaged households that are pregnant or raising infants, half of the parents are unemployed and have 0 yen in savings. The most frequent response regarding desired support from pregnancy through postpartum was the regular receipt of consumable necessities for babies, such as disposable diapers, baby wipes, and baby food (retort pouches).

The government started offering childbirth and child-rearing support grants in 2023 and support benefits for pregnant women starting in April 2025; however, support for households in economically difficult situations remains insufficient. Save the Children will continue to provide support in the form of newborn supplies to guarantee children's rights from birth.

We kindly ask the media to cooperate in publicizing this so that as many people as possible can utilize it.
