RX Japan LLC (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; Representative Executive Officer and President: Takashi Tanaka) will launch the 'Park & Public Design Zone' for the first time within the 20th edition of GARDEX (International Garden & Outdoor EXPO), a comprehensive exhibition for gardening, outdoor living, and spatial design.
This new zone is a specialized area dedicated to enhancing the value of public and semi-public spaces such as parks, streets, plazas, and commercial facilities. As a comprehensive exhibition covering gardening, outdoor, and spatial design, GARDEX aims to create a platform that meets the rising demand for 'high-value space creation' and 'facility renewal and maintenance'.
Background of the New Zone
In recent years, urban development and regional revitalization efforts have increasingly focused not just on basic infrastructure, but on creating spaces where 'people gather, stay, and experience'. At the same time, public parks, facilities, and exterior spaces across Japan face growing challenges such as 'aging equipment and paving materials', 'rising maintenance costs', and 'compliance with accessibility, disaster prevention, and safety standards'.
Against this backdrop, public-private partnerships such as PFI (Private Finance Initiative) are expanding. As of 2024, the total number of PFI projects has reached 1,154, with the year-on-year increase marking the highest since 1999*. In the park sector, Park-PFI is gaining momentum, accelerating facility renovations and longevity using private funding and expertise, while also promoting vibrant spaces that achieve both social engagement and profitability.
In response to these trends, GARDEX is launching the 'Park & Public Design Zone' as a platform for cross-sectoral proposals covering design, materials, equipment, and maintenance. The zone will serve as a specialized exhibition addressing diverse needs from government agencies to private enterprises.
