cetecom advanced certifies Rohde & Schwarz's Hybrid eCall and Next Generation eCall test solutions

Rohde & Schwarz has successfully passed certification testing by cetecom advanced for its Hybrid eCall and Next Generation eCall test solutions. cetecom advanced is an independent test laboratory providing product testing and international certification services in fields such as telecommunications, automotive, medical technology, and payment and authentication.

Rohde & Schwarz's solution is based on the CMX500 radio communication tester and an updated eCall option that ensures compliance with the latest eCall regulations and standards.

The CMX500 radio communication tester now supports the Hybrid eCall option, which guarantees that emergency calls reliably reach their destination.

The Hybrid eCall test specification EN 18052 requires hybrid systems to combine multiple transmission paths and protocols to ensure eCall messages reliably reach emergency services. In practice, vehicles must use Next Generation (NG) eCall functionality—IP/IMS-based voice and data communication over 4G/5G networks—while automatically falling back to traditional Circuit-Switched (CS) eCall (2G/3G) when network coverage or service quality deteriorates. Manufacturers must verify successful call initiation, transmission of the Minimum Set of Data (MSD), maintenance of GNSS location information, and clear voice quality across various network conditions, including VoNR, VoLTE, and circuit-switched fallback. Additionally, the system must demonstrate stable operation during handovers and under poor radio conditions, complying with CEN, ETSI, 3GPP, and relevant national requirements.

Rohde & Schwarz has updated its eCall evaluation solution CMX-KA09x to support compliance with EN 18052:2025 and EN 17240:2024+A1:2026. The CMX-KA099 option has completed Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) test scenarios based on EN 18052:2025, while the CMX-KA098 option has completed PSAP test scenarios based on EN 17240:2024+A1:2026. This marks a significant step toward meeting Next Generation eCall test system requirements in Europe.
