RightsTech Inc. (Headquarters: Tokyo), which provides the online safety support platform "beME," has released a handbook titled "Handbook for Not Suffering in Silence: How to Avoid Online Victimization," which summarizes initial response steps and preventive measures for when one becomes a victim of online harm.

This handbook was created as part of an awareness initiative by beME. It organizes information in an easy-to-understand format for everyone, covering everything from key points to know before becoming a victim to specific action flows to take if damage actually occurs.

Background of the Handbook Release With the spread of social media and messaging apps, online victimization—including defamation, impersonation, deepfakes, revenge porn, and sextortion (sexual extortion)—is becoming more diverse and sophisticated every year.

On the other hand, there are many cases where victims suffer in silence simply because they "don't know how to respond" or "don't know where to seek advice." To improve this situation, beME has visualized the basic actions that everyone should take through this handbook.
