RightsTech Inc. (Headquarters: Tokyo) has released "Don't Suffer in Silence: To Avoid Online Harm," a handbook compiling initial responses and preventive measures for online harm, through its online safety support platform "beME."
This handbook was created as part of beME's awareness campaign, organizing key points to know before becoming a victim, as well as specific action flows for when harm actually occurs, in an easy-to-understand manner for everyone.
Background of the Handbook's Release
With the widespread use of social media and messaging apps, online harms such as defamation, impersonation, deepfakes, revenge porn, and sextortion (sexual extortion) are becoming increasingly diverse and sophisticated year by year.
On the other hand, there are many cases where victims suffer in silence because they "don't know how to respond" or "don't know where to seek advice." To improve this situation, beME has made the basic actions everyone should take visible through this handbook.
