Riahs Clinic (Location: Chuo-ku, Tokyo) conducted a survey titled "Women's Hair Concerns During the Rainy Season and Self-Care for Thinning Hair and Volume Loss" targeting women in their late 30s to 50s who have hair concerns during the rainy season, specifically thinning hair and volume loss.

The humid rainy season continues.

Morning hair styling, battling unruly hair, is likely to cause more stress than usual.

Furthermore, as women age, they increasingly notice changes in their hair quality itself, and many may be perplexed by "hair concerns different from their younger days."

Therefore, Riahs Clinic (https://riahsclinic.com/) conducted a survey titled "Women's Hair Concerns During the Rainy Season and Self-Care for Thinning Hair and Volume Loss" targeting women in their late 30s to 50s who have hair concerns during the rainy season, specifically thinning hair and volume loss.

Morning efforts during the rainy season go to waste!? Even if hair is styled for longer than other seasons, about 70% collapses by late morning.

Rainy season hair concerns are diverse, but what changes cause the most stress?

When asked about "hair concerns that you don't want others to point out or feel embarrassed about during the rainy season compared to other seasons," the most common response was "frizz and wavy hair getting worse (76.0%)", followed by "frizz and flyaways becoming noticeably messy (51.7%)" and "thinning hair becoming noticeable due to volume loss from humidity (36.5%)".

The rainy season, where the effects of humidity are prominent, seems to accelerate frizz, flyaways, and noticeable thinning hair due to lack of volume, completely taking away control of one's hair. It became clear that hair changes that undermine confidence every time one looks in the mirror are a major physical and mental stress for women, especially during a period when spirits are already low due to continuous rain.

Next, when asked "Does the time spent on morning hair styling during the rainy season become longer compared to other seasons?", over 60% responded with "significantly longer (15.4%)" or "somewhat longer (46.1%)", indicating that they spend more time on hair styling than usual.

It appears that many are trying meticulous measures with irons and styling products, dedicating time from their busy mornings to cover up "concerns they don't want others to point out."

When asked "How soon after morning hair styling during the rainy season do you feel your style collapsing?", the most common response was "immediately after going out (37.1%)", followed by "in the morning (about 1-2 hours) (30.5%)" and "around lunchtime (about half a day) (27.2%)".

Despite over 60% of respondents spending more time than usual on morning hair styling in the previous question, approximately 70% feel their style collapsing immediately after going out or by late morning. This highlights how difficult it is to maintain an ideal state in the face of strong rainy season humidity, even with careful styling.

"Morning efforts were for nothing..." Sad changes and embarrassing episodes related to hair

・No matter how fluffy I make it, it immediately goes flat (40s / Female / Housewife)

・My bangs are naturally wavy, so if they get even a little wet after I go out, they immediately curl in a strange direction, and I can't fix them, which is troublesome. (40s / Female / Housewife)

・Because I have wavy hair, it swells and frizzes. I hate that, so I often wear a hat during the rainy season. (40s / Female / Office worker)

・Even if I straighten it with an iron in the morning, frizz and flyaways become noticeable immediately at work. I always think on rainy days that the hard work I put in during my busy morning was a waste of time. (50s / Female / Part-time worker)

・Even after styling, flyaways stick out, and because of my age, I look like a messy-haired old lady, and my reflection in the train window looked pathetic. (50s / Female / Part-time worker)

・My hair sticks to my skin and suddenly I look old like a grandmother.
