Takashi Ono, Sous Chef of Japanese Cuisine Hanagoyomi at The Kahala Hotel & Resort Yokohama (Location: 1-1-3 Minatomirai, Nishi-ku, Yokohama, Kanagawa / General Manager: Yasutoshi Abe), which celebrated its 5th anniversary in September 2025, received the Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare Award in the Local Cuisine Division at the "35th National Japanese Cuisine Competition" held on Saturday, March 21, 2026.
This competition is a nationwide cooking contest that competes for innovation and creativity in response to modern values, while inheriting the techniques and spirit of Japanese cuisine. In the local cuisine division, emphasis is placed on ingredient selection and cooking methods based on the climate, culture, and unique storytelling throughout the dish, from various regions of Japan.
Ono created a course meal inspired by the rich nature and food culture of the Miura Peninsula in Kanagawa Prefecture, with the theme of a bamboo shoot digging scene. Incorporating local agricultural and marine products, he carefully brought out the unique flavors of each ingredient, elevating the charm of the region into a modern expression.
We regard this award as a testament to our hotel's technical skill and expressive power in Japanese cuisine. Taking this opportunity, we will strive for further technical improvement and deeper expression to deliver the depth and charm of Japanese cuisine to more customers.
