Raxus Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Osaka City, Kita Ward / President: Shojiro Fukushige, hereinafter referred to as "the Company"), through its corporate vehicle purchasing service "CarNext PRO," conducted a survey targeting 300 managers involved in the purchase, management, or sale of company cars at companies owning two or more company vehicles. The survey investigated the status of understanding annual maintenance costs per company car, costs that are difficult to grasp and manage, and the actual situation of reviewing maintenance costs and ownership costs.

Survey Background

Companies that own multiple company cars incur various ongoing expenses not only for the purchase of vehicles but also for fuel, vehicle inspections, repairs and maintenance, automobile insurance premiums, taxes, and parking fees.

On the other hand, the costs associated with company cars are a mix of those incurred per vehicle, those that vary depending on usage, and those incurred annually, making management complex. In particular, when multiple vehicles are owned, even if the overall costs are understood, the annual maintenance costs per vehicle and the breakdown of costs may not be sufficiently visualized.

Accurately grasping and regularly reviewing the maintenance costs and ownership costs of company cars is important for reducing unnecessary fixed costs and making decisions about vehicle replacement or sale.

Therefore, CarNext PRO conducted a survey targeting managers of companies owning two or more company cars to investigate the status of understanding annual maintenance costs per company car, costs that are difficult to grasp and manage, and the actual situation of reviewing maintenance costs and ownership costs.

Survey Summary

- Only 27.0% of managers "accurately grasp annual maintenance costs per company car."

- On the other hand, including those who "roughly grasp," "grasp the total amount but not per vehicle," and "grasp only some costs," 73.0% do not accurately grasp annual maintenance costs per vehicle.

- The most common difficult-to-grasp and manage cost was "repair and maintenance costs" at 34.3%. This was followed by "fuel costs" at 32.3% and "tire and consumable costs" at 31.3%.

- 42.3% of managers "review maintenance costs and ownership costs only when necessary," "rarely review," or "never review."

73.0% of Managers at Companies Owning Company Cars Do Not Accurately Grasp Annual Maintenance Costs Per Vehicle

When asked about the extent to which they grasp the annual maintenance costs per company car, only 27.0% of managers responded that they "accurately grasp them per vehicle."

On the other hand, 25.3% "roughly grasp them per vehicle," 23.7% "grasp the total amount but not per vehicle," 7.0% "grasp only some costs," 6.7% "do not grasp them well," 6.0% "do not grasp them at all," and 4.3% "do not know."

These results revealed that 73.0% do not accurately grasp the annual maintenance costs per vehicle.

For companies owning multiple company cars, various costs such as fuel, vehicle inspections, repairs and maintenance, insurance premiums, and taxes are incurred per vehicle. Even if overall expenditures are understood, if annual maintenance costs are not visualized on a per-vehicle basis, it may be difficult to identify vehicles with high costs or those that require review.

"Repair and Maintenance Costs" are the Most Common Difficult-to-Grasp and Manage Costs, Followed by "Fuel Costs" and "Tire and Consumable Costs"

When asked about the costs associated with company cars that they find difficult to grasp and manage, the most common response was "repair and maintenance costs" at 34.3%.

This was followed by "fuel costs" at 32.3% and "tire and consumable costs" at 31.3%. Costs that tend to fluctuate based on daily usage, mileage, and vehicle condition ranked high.

Other responses included "costs related to accident and breakdown response" at 25.7%, "highway tolls and road charges" at 22.3%, "taxes such as automobile tax and weight tax" at 19.7%, and "vehicle inspection costs" at 19.0%.

Repair and maintenance costs, fuel costs, and tire and consumable costs are expenses that tend to vary in frequency and amount per vehicle, making it difficult to forecast annual costs in advance. For companies owning multiple company cars, grasping and managing these variable costs appears to be a challenge in visualizing ownership costs.

42.3% of Corporate Managers Do Not Regularly Review Company Car Maintenance and Ownership Costs, Highlighting the Importance of Cost Visualization

When asked about the regularity of reviewing company car maintenance and ownership costs, the most common response was "review only when necessary" at 24.0%.

Additionally, 10.0% "rarely review" and 8.3% "never review." Combined, this indicates that 42.3% do not regularly review company car maintenance and ownership costs.

On the other hand, 10.3% "review once a month or more," 13.3% "review about once every three months," 18.3% "review about once every six months," and 15.7% "review about once a year."

Company car maintenance and ownership costs are divided into multiple items such as fuel, repair and maintenance, insurance premiums, and taxes, and they fluctuate depending on usage and vehicle condition. Grasping per-vehicle costs and regularly reviewing them is considered important for reducing unnecessary fixed costs and making decisions about vehicle replacement or sale.

Manager Comments

In this survey, only 27.0% of managers at companies owning two or more company cars responded that they "accurately grasp annual maintenance costs per vehicle." While overall expenditures may be understood, the breakdown per vehicle is not always clear, indicating the difficulty of cost visualization in managing multiple vehicles.

Furthermore, "repair and maintenance costs," "fuel costs," and "tire and consumable costs" were ranked high as difficult-to-grasp and manage expenses. These are items where costs can easily accumulate without notice, as their amounts tend to fluctuate based on vehicle usage frequency and condition.

Company cars incur certain fixed costs simply by being owned. Therefore, it is important to regularly review "which vehicles are incurring how much cost" and "whether they need to continue to be owned."
