RAXUS Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Kita-ku, Osaka City; President and CEO: Seijiro Fukushige; hereinafter "the company") conducted a survey on routine tasks and AI utilization in the workplace through its RAXUS AI School, which supports AI implementation initiatives. The survey targeted employed individuals aged 20–59 nationwide to better understand the burden caused by inefficient routine tasks at work and the demand for operational efficiency improvements through AI.

Survey Background

In recent years, the use of AI tools, including generative AI, has been expanding across industries. How to streamline daily routine tasks—such as document creation, meeting minutes preparation, and data entry—has become a key concern for many organizations.

Meanwhile, inefficient tasks involving manual work and repeated checks still persist in many workplaces. These burdens may affect employee well-being and their attitudes toward their current employers. For companies striving to improve employee retention and productivity, understanding which tasks employees find burdensome and where they expect AI-driven improvements is crucial for future organizational development.

To address this, the company conducted a survey targeting employed individuals aged 20–59 nationwide, focusing on their perceptions of inefficient routine tasks, job change considerations, current AI tool usage, and tasks they hope to see improved through AI.

Survey Summary

- 53.7% of respondents (excluding 806 who answered "no applicable tasks") feel burdened by inefficient routine tasks at work

- Among those feeling burdened by inefficient routine tasks, 65.8% said they have "considered changing jobs" at their current workplace

- 54.5% of all respondents expressed a need for AI-driven efficiency improvements

- 88.7% of respondents from workplaces that have introduced or are using AI said they have tasks they want to see optimized by AI

- Top tasks respondents want AI to streamline: "document creation," "meeting minutes preparation," and "data entry"

53.7% of Workers Feel Burdened by Inefficient Routine Tasks

Excluding the 806 respondents who answered "no applicable tasks," 53.7% of the remaining respondents reported feeling burdened by inefficient routine tasks at their workplace. Breaking this down, 16.1% said they "feel it strongly," and 37.6% said they "feel it somewhat," indicating that over half of those performing such tasks experience a significant burden.

On the other hand, 30.2% said they "don't feel it much," and 16.0% said they "don't feel it at all." While perceptions of burden vary, a majority of respondents who perform these tasks do feel burdened.

Given that 53.7% of respondents either "feel it strongly" or "feel it somewhat," inefficient routine tasks appear to be a common workplace challenge. Reducing this burden is therefore a critical issue for improving employee well-being and operational productivity.

65.8% of Workers Feeling Burdened by Inefficient Tasks Have Considered Job Changes

Among respondents who reported feeling burdened by inefficient routine tasks at their workplace, 65.8% said they have "considered changing jobs" at their current employer. In contrast, only 26.8% of those who said they do not feel burdened reported having considered job changes—indicating a higher likelihood of job change considerations among those feeling burdened.

Breaking it down, among those who feel burdened: 65.8% have considered changing jobs, 32.6% have not, and 1.6% were unsure. Among those who do not feel burdened: 26.8% have considered changing jobs, 68.6% have not, and 4.6% were unsure.

Among those who said "no applicable tasks," 16.4% have considered changing jobs, 47.3% have not, and 36.4% were unsure. The data shows a clear trend: the greater the burden from inefficient routine tasks, the higher the likelihood of having considered changing jobs. This suggests that reducing routine task burdens is a key factor in employee retention.

Demand for AI-Driven Efficiency Improvements: 54.5% Overall, 88.7% in AI-Using Workplaces

When asked whether there are tasks at their workplace they would like to see optimized by AI, 54.5% of all respondents said "yes." Meanwhile, 45.5% said "no applicable tasks," indicating that more than half of employees have some level of demand for AI-driven efficiency improvements.

When analyzed by AI adoption status: 88.7% of respondents from workplaces that have introduced or are using AI said they have tasks they want to see optimized by AI. In contrast, 45.3% of respondents from workplaces without AI adoption said the same, and only 25.0% of those who were unsure.

This suggests that in workplaces already using AI, the potential for AI-driven efficiency improvements is more tangible. As AI adoption progresses, employees may become more aware of specific tasks that could be further optimized. This highlights the importance of not only introducing AI tools but also promoting their practical application in day-to-day operations.

Top Tasks Workers Want AI to Optimize: "Document Creation," "Meeting Minutes Preparation," "Data Entry"

When asked which tasks they would like to see optimized by AI, the most common response was "document creation" (25.2%), followed by "meeting minutes preparation" (20.9%) and "data entry" (20.0%). Tasks involving document creation, record keeping, and data input ranked highest.

Other notable responses included "data aggregation and analysis" (18.4%) and "email and chat message drafting" (16.9%), indicating demand for AI support in information organization and writing tasks. Tasks that are frequent and time-consuming appear to be the ones where AI assistance is most desired.

The top-ranked tasks are routine activities commonly found across industries and job roles. Streamlining tasks such as document creation, meeting minutes preparation, and data entry through AI could significantly reduce employee workload and free up time for higher-value activities.

Comment from the Survey Team

This survey found that 65.8% of workers feeling burdened by inefficient routine tasks have considered changing jobs. Routine tasks such as document creation, meeting minutes preparation, and data entry are common across workplaces, but when handled manually, they can easily become sources of employee stress.

Additionally, the demand for AI-driven efficiency improvements stood at 54.5% overall and reached 88.7% in workplaces already using AI. This suggests that in organizations where AI is already in use, employees are more likely to identify specific tasks that could benefit from further AI optimization.

For businesses, AI adoption is not just about improving efficiency—it also enables employees to focus more time on high-value work. RAXUS AI School will continue to support practical, on-the-ground AI utilization tailored to real workplace challenges, contributing to both organizational productivity and employee well-being.
