COMPASS Inc. (Headquarters: Bunkyo Ward, Tokyo; Representative Director: Jun Sato) is pleased to announce that its AI-based learning material "Qubena" has been officially adopted as part of instruction in all municipal elementary schools, junior high schools, and special needs schools in Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture, and will be available for use starting July 2026.
Kitakyushu City, which has adopted Qubena, is promoting various initiatives such as the integrated enhancement of individualized and collaborative learning, and the utilization of ICT, as part of its "Kitakyushu City Children First Education Plan" mission to "promote learning that leaves no one behind and advanced learning that looks to the future." As part of these efforts, the AI-based learning material "Qubena" has now been officially adopted and will be introduced in all municipal elementary schools, junior high schools, and special needs schools. Students from the 1st grade of elementary school to the 3rd grade of junior high school began using it in July 2026.
In adopting Qubena, the city expects it to support class comprehension through AI-driven individualized learning and to foster solid academic skills by balancing review and self-study, as a measure to address the city's challenges in academic achievement, particularly in the retention of knowledge and skills.
Comment from Kiyoharu Ota, Superintendent of the Kitakyushu City Board of Education:
Our city has already achieved tangible results in improving "comprehension of lessons" and "perseverance in tackling tasks" through our ongoing efforts to enhance academic achievement. While building on these achievements, we need to pursue more effective approaches in areas such as "retention of foundational knowledge and skills" and "establishment of study habits."
We believe that "Qubena," which will be introduced this time, can deliver "customized learning" tailored to each child's progress, enabling effective support for their individual challenges.
Of course, we are not replacing all school studies with an app. We will carefully integrate the app as a new tool, while valuing traditional learning methods such as face-to-face classes and thoughtful writing in notebooks.
As children utilize the app, we will work closely with schools and families to foster their growth into "autonomous learners" who experience the "joy of understanding," proactively engage in learning, and carve out their own futures.
COMPASS will continue to contribute to the further dissemination of ICT in public education as a leading company delivering "individualized learning" to all children without leaving anyone behind, through the provision of Qubena.
