STUDY is a multidisciplinary collective with four core members: Shō Ikeda (sound artist), Tomoki Kawamura (playwright and director), Takuto Sakurai (choreographer), and Yūto Honda (drummer).
Following their participation in the Toyooka Theater Festival 2025, STUDY returns with a new production after nearly a year, presenting performances from Friday, June 19, 2026, to Sunday, June 21, at BUoY Underground Space in Kitasenju. QuanTRIOS GK is supporting this production as a sponsor.
This article provides details on tickets and performance information. We hope audiences will experience the originality and innovation of this work firsthand at the theater. STUDY challenges the form of solo theater, exploring new expressions of love through cross-genre collaboration.
Key visual for the production, created by painter Shōtarō Sanada.
Comment from STUDY:
This debut theatrical work is an experimental piece (!) in which seven performers use diverse media to stage a grand-scale, solo tragicomedy (?) about one man’s heartbreak, based on 12 original compositions written by Yūto Honda.
Painter Shōtarō Sanada, who received the Best Debutant of the Year 2025 award and is active across multiple fields, contributes to both the main visual and the cast. Also joining the cast are actors Hayaya Kawaguchi and Konomi Hakozaki, who are active primarily in the Kansai region.
A new generation of rising talents will take over Kitasenju.
Don’t miss this opportunity (!?)

· Synopsis
This is a breakup song.
This is longing.
I’m an adult too. But I want to rewind time, start over, do whatever I please.
This isn’t a piece meant to help you move forward. But I don’t want you to feel down either.
I love you. I loved you.

Director’s Comment: Yūto Honda (Original Concept, Composition, Performer)
This performance tells the story of one man’s heartbreak.
I composed the music, but I specifically requested that the structure of the play resist the music—aiming for a pop, nonchalant tone. This stems from my belief that emotional states and outward attitudes often contradict each other in negative environments. Humans are constantly contradictory. Looking inward is extremely painful. But perhaps, if we do it together, we can face it. We await you in Tokyo, where contradiction and love coexist in saturation.

Member Comment: Shō Ikeda (Sound)
In STUDY’s creative environment, disciplines that rarely interact closely come together, so things don’t always go as planned. But I find the misalignments and mismatches themselves fascinating.
This work approaches heartbreak—a deeply personal experience—from multiple angles: language, body, music, visual art, and acting.
Structurally, it’s tightly constructed, yet the emotions it handles are messy and chaotic.
I believe this lack of neat resolution is precisely what makes the work compelling. I hope audiences will experience it in the theater.
