This year marks the 150th anniversary of Yamagata Prefecture, established on August 21, 1876 (Meiji 9) through the merger of the three prefectures of Yamagata, Tsuruoka, and Okitama, as decreed by the Meiji government.
The prefecture will hold commemorative events, including a ceremony and concert, to reflect on its history and provide an opportunity for its residents to re-evaluate the prefecture's value and envision a positive future.

★ Commemorative Ceremony & Concert
Attendees: Approximately 1,900 people (approx. 1,600 general public via lottery)
The ceremony will feature a screening of a video looking back at the prefecture's history, presentations by winners of a composition contest, and a rendition of the prefectural song by high school students.
The commemorative concert by the Yamagata Symphony Orchestra will feature familiar tunes and a program designed to convey Yamagata's charm and aspirations for the future.

★ Yamagata Prefecture Turns 150 Today! Birthday Gathering
Attendees: Approximately 180 people (including general public)
This event aims to celebrate the prefecture's "birthday" with a wide range of participants, including children who will lead the future, and to mark a new beginning towards a bright future for the prefecture.
It will be held in a casual atmosphere with performances by the Prefectural Police Band, a kusudama breaking ceremony, a solo rendition of the prefectural song by high school students, and calligraphy performances.
[2. Exhibition of Related Materials, etc.]
★ Yamagata Prefectural Museum Special Exhibition "Civil Engineering Infrastructure ~ Paving the Way for the Prefecture ~"
This exhibition focuses on "roads" as social infrastructure, including roads, railways, sea routes, and air routes, and introduces the 150-year history of the prefecture's development alongside these "roads" through approximately 240 exhibits.

★ Exhibition of Related Books, etc. at the Prefectural Library
Exhibition of books related to the history of prefectural administration held by the Prefectural Library.
★ Traveling Exhibition at Yamagata Prefecture's General Branch Offices
Panels and related materials reflecting on the history of prefectural administration will be exhibited at Yamagata Prefecture's General Branch Offices (Murayama, Mogami, Okitama, Shonai).

★ Composition Contest
Target Audience: Elementary school students (5th grade and above), junior high school students, and high school students within the prefecture.
Theme: "About the Future of Our Hometown"
The winners of the Grand Prize in each category (elementary, junior high, high school) are scheduled to give speeches of their award-winning essays at the commemorative ceremony on September 9th.
★ Instagram Hashtag #PostCampaign
Theme: "What I Love About Yamagata. What I Want to Preserve for the Future!"
Submissions of photos and videos of scenery, traditional events, etc., taken within the prefecture are being accepted. The top three works with the most "likes" among those reposted on the official prefectural account will receive a special award.

Target Audience: Children enrolled in elementary schools, etc.
Theme: "What I Hope Yamagata Will Become ~ The Future of Yamagata Prefecture ~"

★ Production of Commemorative Video
A video will be produced to look back on the 150-year history of prefectural administration, express gratitude to the pioneers who built the foundation of the prefecture, and look forward to its future.
