About Pirika

https://corp.pirika.org/

Pirika started as a project in 2011 and was incorporated with the aim of overcoming all environmental problems through the power of science and technology. It focuses on the issue of plastic-centered waste outflow into nature.

The litter cleanup SNS "Pirika" is used in over 135 countries and regions, with over 400 million pieces of litter collected to date. The company also works on waste-related surveys such as the "Takanome" waste distribution survey service and microplastic outflow surveys, as well as countermeasures, consulting, and resource recycling.

Pirika's Policy Advocacy

Microplastics suspended in water and air are a concern due to potential health impacts from ingestion and inhalation. Artificial turf is the largest source (approximately 25%) of outflow in Japan. Many sports facilities are developed with public subsidies, and by applying existing systems, the widespread adoption of outflow prevention equipment can be effectively promoted. Pirika will continue to work on creating systems that balance sports promotion and environmental conservation based on survey data.

Comment from Fujio Kojima, Representative Director

"We are truly grateful to have been selected by the Policy Fund for the second consecutive year. Pirika Inc. aims to overcome all environmental problems through the power of science and technology, and we have been working on surveying and solving microplastic outflow, including from artificial turf. Through policy advocacy, we will work diligently for one year in cooperation with stakeholders to promote structural countermeasures from a systemic perspective, such as improving the artificial turf subsidy system."

Progress in the Second Phase of "SoilxPolicy Fund"

Pirika is working on policy advocacy for systemic solutions to microplastics from artificial turf, which is a challenge for outflow into rivers and oceans. In FY2025, warnings about outflow issues were incorporated into major artificial turf subsidy schemes, and outflow prevention equipment, which was previously ineligible, became eligible for subsidies.
