Body care company Phiten Co., Ltd. (Location: Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto; Representative Director: Yoshihiro Hirata; hereinafter "Phiten") held the "Phiten Power Tape Renewal Talk Session" on Monday, March 30, 2026, to commemorate the renewed launch of its "Power Tape Series," which has been loved by many since its initial release on Thursday, April 2, 2026. The event featured judoka Natsumi Tsunoda, neurologist Dr. Katsuyuki Uchino, Phiten Marketing Department Manager Tomoya Takeuchi, and Phiten Body Care Meister Yuichiro Suzuki. They discussed the appeal of the renewed Power Tape and the potential of "self-body care" extending from sports to daily life.
Renewed Power Tape Series
Tomoya Takeuchi, Manager of the Marketing Department at Phiten Co., Ltd., gave a presentation on the renewal of "Power Tape," which is celebrating its 31st year since its launch. He touched upon the recent growing interest in "recovery," including "recovery wear," and expressed his thoughts on the renewal, stating, "Now that the importance of rest, fatigue recovery, and conditioning maintenance is being re-recognized, I strongly feel that the renewed Power Tape, born from Phiten's long-cultivated technological development, can contribute to people's body care."
He also explained that this renewal is a "lineup refresh based on technological evolution," with products adopting Phiten's highest-grade "Nano Metax" technology at the top. He emphasized that the evolution of materials and technology has further improved the inherent functionality of Power Tape.
Furthermore, he mentioned that the use of Power Tape, which was previously strongly associated with sports scenes, is now expanding into daily life. He stated, "In addition to caring for areas like shoulders, lower back, and knees, we want people suffering from modern-specific ailments such as hay fever, migraines due to atmospheric pressure changes, and eye strain from computer and smartphone use to utilize it." He expressed enthusiasm for providing it to a wider range of consumers.
Regarding the potential of this renewed Power Tape, Dr. Uchino commented from a medical perspective, "I believe it can lead to solving stress, which is the biggest challenge facing modern people. For us doctors, dealing with 'pre-symptomatic diseases' caused by invisible factors like stress is a major challenge. If pre-symptomatic diseases are left untreated, they can progress to autonomic nervous system dysfunction and dementia. Therefore, naturally stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system and performing self-care in daily life aligns with modern needs."
Natsumi Tsunoda: "#KomekamiPhiten" Behind the Gold Medal
Ms. Tsunoda, who has been using Power Tape since junior high school, was asked about the reason why she taped her temples during her Paris Olympics match, which became a big topic. She replied that she has been using it since junior high school, saying, "I always put it on my temples during matches. It's like a switch turns on inside me, my gaze focuses on one point, anxieties and distractions disappear, and I can 'only think about winning.' It's a strong partner that brings out my power." She expressed her complete trust in Phiten products. Regarding this point, Dr. Uchino commented from a medical perspective, "Humans obtain most of their information through sight among the five senses, so in a match fought in a 0.1-second world, the orbicularis oculi muscles around the eyes are in a very tense state. Therefore, by applying tape to these orbicularis oculi muscles and stimulating them appropriately, the muscles can relax, blood flow can increase, and concentration can be enhanced."
Acupressure Care for Daily Life
Neurologist Dr. Uchino touched upon the topic of headaches, which can be called a national disease in Japan, and emphasized the need for self-care items that can be used daily, such as Power Tape. He also introduced ways to use it, such as applying Power Tape to the "Yusen" point on the sole of the foot for general fatigue, or to the "Tianshu" points on either side of the navel for constipation. Ms. Tsunoda said, "I'm interested in 'Chusho.' I've been feeling sleepy a lot lately even though I've slept well, so I'd like to try it." Dr. Uchino also shared an anecdote, saying, "For me, it's Yusen. When I had a foot reflexology massage, I was in so much agony that I fell over and got a slipped disc, so I think my whole body is probably in bad shape, and I'll try applying it right in the middle of the sole of my foot." When it was revealed that about 1 in 2 Power Tape users wear it constantly, regardless of sports or daily life, everyone present nodded in agreement.
Instant Realization! Surprising Demonstration of "Neck Range of Motion" Change
In the latter half of the event, Phiten Body Care Meister Yuichiro Suzuki took the stage and demonstrated how to apply the tape to the sternocleidomastoid muscle in the neck. Ms. Tsunoda, who experienced it firsthand, showed surprise at the immediate effect, saying, "Before applying it, I felt a catch when I turned my neck, but after applying it, that catch was gone, and my neck moved smoothly." Dr. Uchino also highly praised the simplicity of Power Tape, commenting, "The sternocleidomastoid muscle is a thick muscle, so it's usually difficult to relax, but it's amazing how easily it relaxes with this."
Not Just for Sports! The Optimal Solution for Self-Care in Daily Life
Towards the end of the talk session, when asked for her impressions and comments on Power Tape, Ms. Tsunoda said, "I was once again surprised at how quickly I could feel the change. Also, I recently started playing golf, and I often get sleepy in the latter half of the game due to early mornings, causing my score to drop. So, I want to try applying it to the 'Chusho' acupoint, which I learned about for improving drowsiness."
Dr. Uchino commented from a doctor's perspective, "In my examinations, if I could suggest such a tool as an option other than drug treatment, people might be more willing to engage in self-care. I feel that I want to actively recommend it in the future."
Furthermore, Takeuchi concluded strongly, "We aim to expand the awareness and use of Power Tape so that it can be utilized in daily life by even more people, not just athletes and practitioners at osteopathic clinics and treatment centers."

History of the Power Tape Series Since Its Launch
Phiten's Power Tape series has been a "long-selling product" since its launch, supporting athletes' best performance with the evolution of Aqua-Metal technology. Its history dates back to 1995 when it was born as a circular tape (approx. 22mm in diameter) coated with "titanium carbide" on the adhesive surface.
- Just by applying it, your body feels lighter and more relaxed -
Initially born from the on-site needs of athletes, its ease of use and immediate effectiveness quickly spread, mainly in the track and field world. Also, when the product was introduced on an information program at the time, it was widely featured in TV and magazines under the name "Titanium Tape," attracting attention as a body care item that could be used not only in sports but also in daily life. Today, many athletes, especially university ekiden and marathon runners, are seen wearing round tapes for body care, and in 2024, judoka Natsumi Tsunoda's "round tape on her temple" became a hot topic again when she won a championship.
In April 2026, the 31st year since the product's release, we will renew the Power Tape series by adding a new top-of-the-line model that incorporates our unique highest-grade "Nano Metax" technology.
Power Tape Series Relaxes Muscles
In a joint verification with the self-funded rehabilitation facility "Stroke Rehabilitation Center," a verification experiment report showed that applying Phiten's Power Tape to muscles resulted in decreased muscle tension, improved joint range of motion, increased efficiency of specific movements, and improved activities of daily living, leading to customer satisfaction.
